Life & Work with Erin Meyers of Murray Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Meyers.

Erin Meyers

Hi Erin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My artistic journey has been a dynamic and evolving exploration. Growing up near the ocean and river, nature was an intrinsic part of my daily life, sparking a passion that would become the cornerstone of my artistic expression. From an early age, I found solace and inspiration in the natural world, and it wasn’t long before I began translating those experiences into visual art. My journey as an award-winning, neurodivergent artist, environmentalist, writer, and creativity advocate has been a tapestry woven with threads of passion, authenticity, and a deep connection to the world around me. As an environmental scientist, I spent 16 years investigating water contamination in Florida. My commitment to environmental and cultural awareness permeates my work, earning recognition from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission for its profound contribution to conservation through the power of artistic expression. As an intuitive painter, I immerse myself fully in the creative process, allowing the inherent flow of creativity to guide my hand. I actively facilitate intuitive painting workshops, sharing the intuitive, creative process with others. These workshops serve as a space for individuals to connect with their artistic instincts and unleash their creativity. Surprising even myself, I ventured into the world of aerial performance at 37, defying expectations and embracing a new dimension of artistic expression. Becoming an aerialist at age 42 added another layer to my multifaceted artistic identity, proving that creativity knows no bounds and can continually unfold throughout one’s life. My story is a testament to the transformative power of creativity, the profound connection between art and nature, and the endless possibilities that unfold when we surrender to the flow of inspiration.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a wild and bumpy road! The most important thing I’ve learned is that the better I feel, the better things go for me. I need to focus on the joy of the process. But the burning desire and passion that I’ve had for creativity has always fueled me with the energy I needed to keep going. And it also helps a lot to be part of a supportive community. As a featured artist and proud Bespoke House artist cooperative member, I wear multiple hats, serving as a digital curator and marketing specialist. This collaborative platform allows me to contribute to a vibrant artistic community, fostering growth and mutual support among fellow creators.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
First and foremost, I am a painter. I work in my home studio, primarily using traditional canvas and acrylic paint. My artistic expression extends beyond the canvas, encompassing various mediums and disciplines that make my creative career multi-faceted. While my roots lie in painting, I have ventured into murals, transforming spaces with vibrant and meaningful visuals. Teaching art workshops is another facet of my work that brings me immense joy. Leading intuitive painting workshops is remarkably fulfilling, as it allows me to be a catalyst in helping others tap into their creativity. Witnessing the transformative power of artistic expression in others is a source of pride and inspiration. My creative repertoire includes digital art, graphic design, printing, and fabric dying. Surprisingly, my artistic journey turned unexpectedly into movement expression, including dance and aerial performance. The fusion of visual art and movement adds a dynamic and multidimensional aspect to my work. What sets me apart from others is my unconventional creative process. While some may view it as reckless, I thrive on approaching each project without a predefined plan. By getting my thinking mind out of the way, I’ve discovered a deeper level of expression than I had previously realized was possible. Embracing the uncertainty of the creative journey allows me to tap into a wellspring of authenticity, resulting in raw, genuine art that reflects my unique perspective.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I was incredibly privileged to receive support and encouragement from my parents and grandparents. They would always ensure that I had art supplies and would take me to classes even as a child. In adulthood, I began participating in creative workshops with Indigo Art Therapy. I taught my first intuitive painting workshop there, and I am incredibly grateful for their love and support as I developed as a teacher and an intuitive artist. And now, I am happy to be a member of Bespoke House in Jacksonville. Even though I have ample studio space at home, I thrive in a creative community. The essence of Bespoke House is collaboration, not competition. The members of Bespoke House have played a great role in my career by helping me to crawl out of my hermit shell occasionally and be part of society.
