Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Taylor.
Hi Corey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Almost 28 years ago, I finished my traditional apprenticeship under Tony Browning in Manassas Virginia about 30 minutes outside the nation’s capital, I have been fortunate enough to have worked and continued to learn from many amazing artists along my journey. I have been able to work at hundreds of conventions along the way as well. Over my 28 years in the industry, I have watched it transform from an underground industry to what it is today. After spending the first part of my career in Virginia I moved to Florida 2 years ago and plan on finishing my career in the amazing and beautiful state of Florida.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first started on my journey information wasn’t as forthcoming. The older artists were more guarded and less willing to help you out along the way. Now the majority of tattooers I know learn the trade by watching tutorial videos online. Unfortunately, that has been in my opinion the slow death of the history of my beloved industry.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I try not to fit in any one category, there are many styles of tattooing I am versed in and enjoy from traditional to Asian-inspired. The only thing I won’t take on is portraits.
Meeting new clients and hearing their stories is one of my favorite parts of my chosen profession.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I learned to market and sell my other forms of art during the pandemic.
