Life & Work with Adrianna Spriggs of Westside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrianna Spriggs.

Hi Adrianna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I’ve always been drawn to decor!!! I always knew something about the decor was where I would end up, but life happened. When younger, I was the girl who loved to make the play mailbox and place it outside my room door (knowing no one in the house was giving me a mail). I knew I fell in love with the decor when we lived in an apartment, and my mom would find people’s trash and create things out of it. The two special items that I remember the most are how we found a fishing net, sprayed it a beautiful ocean blue, and placed it on our ceiling throughout the apartment. My mom also loved glass figurines, so I remember us shopping at the pecan flea market and her buying a set of glass swans with blue water in them. I knew off of those things alone I loved decorating!!!

I wanted to go to school for decor (at the time, Florida State College of Jacksonville) and take the decor program but met with tons of opposition. One is that Jacksonville didn’t have a housing industry for decor, and I would need to move to New York or Miami to even think about making a living out of this. See, my goal was luxury decor inside of homes. Either way, I decided to take something that made sense because I had a family at this time. I went to Dental Assisting school. While in the dental field, my coworkers and dentist encouraged me to continue my education. I eventually decided that Dental Hygiene was the next step but decided to go “psychology” instead. While taking a degree, I met a dentist here in Jacksonville (female Oral Surgeon) named Dr. S Maymand. She was in the Navy and spoke to me about how I should follow my dream and get paid to do it. I ended up joining the Florida Army National Guard (Currently in).

I went to basic training and returned only to find myself going active National Guard. While doing this, I remember having an hour lunch break, and one of the Soldiers needed a bouquet and some arrangements to be made for an event. I jumped at the chance and did everything free!! For some reason, this snowballed, and the others loved my arrangements and would also ask for some. I would take my entire lunch break running to the store and making arrangements.

One day, SFC Fehr walked into my office and told me he loved my work but felt I should be charging because I did such a great job. I remember telling him, “NO, no one would pay for me to do anything.” He told me I was selling myself short and having a couple of arrangements done within 3 days for a person coming by. I remember him bringing some bikers who rented out our armory, and they loved my creations and asked me to make custom items. I was shocked, but I did it. Afterward, I started charging for my arrangements which fell into my art and now my wedding decor service!!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
No, not a smooth road at all and still is not. My mind never sleeps, and I know what I can create and do. I believe I can make magic for everything but need chances to prove it. Marketing to the right audience is hard, and finding people who believe in you enough to trust is even more challenging. Being taken seriously is always a big thing as well. I am newer to the wedding sector but not new to decor. It’s always hard when people haven’t seen everything you can do, but you know you can. It’s even worse when you’re in the luxury sector. Not many can visualize the dream and cost of what they want. I specialize in luxury weddings and will only get better at it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So, I am an Artist who does LUXURY wedding decor!!! I am known for my wedding tablespaces and my resin art pieces!!! My specialty is turning the vision of romance and lux into a live thing, incorporating some of my art. I am most proud of having a very creative mind and seeing what a person can’t. I love that I try adding some pops of my art to the decor. I am set apart because I offer upscale luxury to any wedding!!! I am the one who wants to add floor-to-ceiling drapes and more. I want to do custom glasses for all of your guests. I will have our guests taking pictures and asking where to find me custom items for their events!! I also always leave the couple something custom!!!

What do you think about happiness?
The happiest moments are when I am creating!!! Not sure as to why this is, but it is. Creating is a double-edged sword because when I am tired, my mind is always thinking of new, bigger, better ways to make the magic happen!! Creating helps me sleep.
