We’re looking forward to introducing you to Michael Derry. Check out our conversation below.
Michael, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I felt very proud when I released my book and then started seeing some reviews coming. It was very nice to see people benefit from what I put out there.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I own a small concierge physical therapy company in Jacksonville, Florida. What unique about revision health services is that we perform concierge level care in your home or office. This company started a while ago when I started realizing that I wanted to have a stronger relationship with my client and what better way to do that than their home. Revision Health does just that, I want people to start thinking differently about their physical health. I am working on growing the mobile practice but also growing my YouTube channel and blog. I also just published a book on sciatica.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship with my wife. She is also a physical therapist and those in the medical field tend to be more empathetic. Well, my wife is a strong empath and her insights have helped me in so many ways. When I talk to her about my day, her ability to listen and respond helps me do that to others and allowed me to form strong relationships with those I work with.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Open up and be vulnerable earlier. Others are sharing the same struggles and heartaches. Just put yourself out there and good things will happen. You are not giving people ammunition you are giving them insight to who you really are.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
I often tell my patients and clients that health is earned. Some resonate with it and others don’t. Most of what we struggle with or battle can be changed. Now, some are dealt awful hands and I am not ignoring that but, when we look at the health we want so much is controlled by what we do and not what is done to us. We need to promote an active approach to our health.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Wow, this one hits hard. Most likely, distracting myself with meaningless tasks such as being on my phone and doom scrolling
