Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Brandon Rains of North side

We recently had the chance to connect with Brandon Rains and have shared our conversation below.

Brandon, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve recently dove head first into comic collecting, it’s been really nice becoming a regular at my local comic shop and finding community with them. Hopefully I’ll be able to integrate that into my content creation!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an aspiring filmmaker! From cinematography to editing to acting, anything to get me on a set and I’ll do it! I participate in the local film festival circuit but I also spend time on passion projects in between, even doing my own work in highlighting other creatives in the community with my own interviewing series “BTS: Behind the Shoot”

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Transitioning from child to adult is a very wide awakening process, being in my mid 20s at this point I think about life every day. I’m still young but I won’t be forever and remembering that reminds me how I should live.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There’s been plenty of times where I’ve felt I could just throw in the towel, but the ones who succeed are the ones who never quit. It’s easy to compare myself and feel I’m not enough and there’s been plenty of time for that but the important thing is that I preserve and I understand that my art is important and it’s important that I express myself though it. It would be easy to give up and easy is boring.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
I do my best to be as transparent as I can be but who doesn’t put on some sort of persona every now and then especially in the world of social media. I feel like I’m actually a quite boring person when I’m not out, haha

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
Sitting in the theater watching the trailers right before the movie, I’m excited about what’s to come and seeing all the movies coming out is the best, getting to enjoy (and probably drink too much) your ICEE and patiently waiting for the lights to dim.

Also most recently when I get to bag and board some comics and organizing them in my short boxes that’s been a great relaxing time.
