Jody Caputo of St. Johns, Florida on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jody Caputo. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Jody, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
When I’m not working, I like to engage my creative side with painting on canvas or honing my writing skills. Both are therapeutic to me and provide a mental escape with my busy lifestyle!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a full time Real Estate Agent who’s been active in the business for over 20 years now. I’ve been with my current Brokerage (Round Table Realty) for over 8 years now. We are unique in that we truly put people first and our Motto is “People before Property.” Of course property is important; we just happen to put people’s best interests first, even if it means advising them NOT to buy a home they love.

Sometimes we can see what they can’t. For example, I don’t want my Buyers moving into what I call a “money pit.” I’d rather lose a sale than my Client’s trust. I work with all types of Buyers and Sellers and I’m continually building relationships. The best compliment is when a former Client calls me many years later to help them with their next move.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my Parents gave me the confidence to follow my dreams and to focus on what brings me joy. They had huge hearts and passed that along to me as I am a heart first Agent all the way. I take pride in being honest, loyal and always doing the right thing. I’m so grateful to them for giving me a good moral compass to guide me through life!

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, plenty of times! My business has ups and downs all the time with many challenges each and every day. It seems in those moments when I think I’m done with it all, along comes a great Client who reminds me of why my expertise is needed. To hear “I couldn’t have done it without you” is music to my ears and gives me the perseverance to go on. It gives me great satisfaction to help others achieve their dreams of home ownership!

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
I think that Technology has gotten way ahead if itself. I’ve seen countless changes since I started in this business and although Technology is a good thing, nothing can replace the value of a human touch.
It seems like every day produces another new gadget or software program and now we have AI. Agents use it to write letters to Clients, clone their voice, you name it. While it is a timesaver and wonderful in certain aspects, I still feel that people need to see the real us and want to relate to us as a fellow human and not something artificial.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that people tell the story of how huge my heart was and how much I loved to help others.
I hope they remember my wit, my honesty, my candidness and continual striving to do the right thing.
