Today we’d like to introduce you to Trisha Bailey.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
My path has been rich and varied, from my humble beginnings amidst the strawberry fields of Dover, Florida, to making meaningful strides in social entrepreneurship across over 60 nations. My professional journey began in the public sector of Seoul, Korea, before venturing into various entrepreneurial activities, from wealth management to commercial and industrial construction to municipal and federal contract fulfillment. My academic journey led to a Ph.D. in International Business. However, the pivotal moment for me came during an online workshop. On a whim, I’d signed up for a session on getting unstuck in your business, and I found myself with a few rare moments of quiet where I could join live. I sought the answer to a question that had nagged me for months. How can I take my business, which is doing incredibly well but sucking the life out of me, and find joy in it? The more I listened to that workshop, the more precise the answer. My business was going to be miserable for me. Why? I had built a company that didn’t align with my values. My pursuit of success was at odds with my core values. After more than twenty years of working with the most financially successful and the most impoverished, I’ve discovered money is great, but humans truly want everything money affords us. We hope to get it as a result of all this success. Significance- this epiphany prompted me to shift gears, and I began focusing all my energy on empowering social entrepreneurs worldwide—a decision that now defines my purpose and legacy.
Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The journey has been anything but smooth; the greatest struggle for me was reconciling my definition of success with my deepest values. The realization that I had built a company that contradicted who I am at my core – I am a person who craves freedom and solitude, which was the opposite of what I had created. I walked away from what many would consider a dream situation, which was a struggle, too. But I took a bold step away from the norm and have pursued a path that resonates with my soul’s calling.
But it has been worth it. Did you know that between 1990 and 2015, a billion people were lifted out of poverty through job creation? Most of that came through small businesses of less than ten people. These are the types of businesses I now get to work with. Like this guy David, from Uganda, who could not afford a computer, so he built one with components found in the local dump and now teaches kids with no formal education to code and connects them with clients who need software created – this is just one example, it’s mind-blowing really what I see being created from nothing time and time again.
What I find so rewarding is when you partner with a social entrepreneur, you are ‘teaching people how to fish,’ not putting a bandaid on a bullet wound with handouts. This type of partnering that is available to us all, by the way, allows people like you from the comfort of your very own couch to be a part of addressing these issues of poverty, trauma, and violence at a systemic level. Doesn’t that sound fulfilling?
We’ve been impressed with your work, but for folks who might need to become more familiar with it, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others? What is the name of your business?
My business is Trisha Bailey, Ph.D. We are a platform dedicated to being the change we wish to see in the world. We do this through consulting, mentoring, and connecting social entrepreneurs globally, fostering sustainable development through socially responsible businesses.
What do you do, specialize in, and what are you known for?
We work with a young network of upcoming social entrepreneurs. Through their ventures, they’re providing the tools people need to lift themselves into dignity, safety, opportunity, and equality in some of the most sensitive areas of the globe. We give them what they need most to succeed: education, empowerment, advice, emotional support, and the encouragement to keep going. These social entrepreneurs leverage their businesses to tackle poverty, trauma, and violence. Did you know that every time you support a social entrepreneur through us, just one social entrepreneur, the expected number of lives you can impact is 25? This includes their trainees and often the trainees’ dependent children and elderly families. We are helping people help themselves. We are helping people help themselves. We focus on systemic change; we aren’t interested in giving handouts. Our work addresses societal challenges’ root causes rather than merely treating symptoms.
Please tell us more about your business or organization. What should we know?
We’re starting a movement and want you to be a part of it. We are dedicated to harnessing social entrepreneurship’s power as a global change catalyst. Our organization serves as a beacon for those who, like David from Uganda, make the impossible possible with limited resources but unlimited determination. David is just one of thousands. Joining the Trisha Bailey Ph.D. movement means becoming part of a community that values action, education, and empowerment over handouts. It’s about giving social entrepreneurs the tools to build sustainable businesses that thrive economically and contribute positively to society. It’s an opportunity for you to live your legacy today. Whether you’re already passionate about this cause, a newcomer to the world of social enterprise, or simply someone who believes in the power of business to effect social change, we’d love to invite you to support this work. By partnering with us, you’re not just investing in a business; you’re investing in a better future for all and making a meaningful difference. Our work is not just about supporting a cause; it’s about actively participating in reshaping the world. It’s a call to step out of your comfort zone, engage with challenges head-on, and contribute to a legacy of empowerment, dignity, and sustainability.
What sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart is the support we provide and the beliefs underpinning our work. The conviction that meaningful success and sustainable impact are achieved not through grand gestures but through consistent, small actions that collectively lead to monumental change. We see the potential for greatness in the grassroots initiatives of local communities and dedicate ourselves to nurturing these into widespread transformation. Our work is unique because we focus on empowering the individual behind the enterprise. We understand that behind every social enterprise is a story of resilience, innovation, and a deep desire to create a better world. By aligning our efforts with these passionate individuals, we help amplify their impact, reaching beyond the immediate community to touch lives across oceans and generations.
If someone wants to get involved, what kind of impact can they expect to make by joining this movement?
