Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Dyer.
Hi Susan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born into a Christian family, where my foundation of faith was firmly established from the very beginning. Growing up on a farm alongside eight siblings cultivated in me a deep appreciation for discipline, teamwork, and trusting God through every challenge. Life required commitment and perseverance, and those early years shaped both my character and my dependence on the Lord. My mother often reminded us, “Why worry when you can pray,” a truth that anchored my life and kept me steady through every season.
That foundation carried me into a lifelong calling to teach, guide, and equip others. I served in education for forty years, earning degrees in education, leadership, and doctrine in ministry. Each step of that journey strengthened my understanding that purpose is not accidental—it is intentional, God-given, and meant to be lived out.
My passion is centered on helping individuals recognize and walk in their divine purpose. I believe every person is called, chosen, and appointed by God long before they ever take their first breath. As it is written in 2 Timothy 1:9, He “has saved us and called us with a holy calling… according to His own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before the world began.”
Out of this conviction, Embracing His Call was birthed—to help others step into that truth. Through one-on-one, biblically-based counseling, I guide individuals to discover freedom, align with their God-given identity, and confidently embrace the call that was established for them before the foundation of the world. My mission is to see lives transformed as people move from uncertainty into clarity, fully walking in the purpose they were created and redeemed to fulfill.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Throughout the process of birthing Embracing His Call, one of the greatest struggles I faced was discerning whether this vision was truly from God or influenced by my own emotions. I carried a deep desire to honor Him, which led me to continually seek confirmation through prayer, Scripture, and wise counsel.
Another significant challenge was stepping out in faith. I had to wrestle with the reality of leaving a stable and fulfilling business to pursue something that was not yet established. Questions often surfaced: What if this doesn’t work? What if I misunderstand God’s direction? What if I miss Him? These uncertainties tested both my faith and my willingness to trust God beyond what I could see.
However, through this journey, I learned that God is faithful to guide those who sincerely seek Him. Rather than giving me every detail upfront, He invited me to trust Him step by step. I came to understand that my responsibility was not to guarantee the outcome, but to walk in obedience.
This process strengthened my dependence on God, deepened my prayer life, and refined my ability to discern His voice. It also taught me that faith often requires moving forward without complete clarity, trusting that He will direct and sustain what He has called me to do.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Embracing His Call?
Finding the right counselor goes beyond just having someone give good advice. Friends offer advice to one another regularly. Biblical counseling takes authority of Scripture and helps individuals see how it works and is practical for their situation. Many who are devoted to the Lord can feel stuck. They are doing everything they know to do but cannot seem to move forward. There are steps to take to break any unhealthy patterns. Christian counselors have a unique advantage of being able to approach issues holistically, based on three dimensions–body, mind and spirit. A biblical understanding of how we are made, as physical, psychological, and spiritual beings mean all three dimensions play an important part of one’s health, peace and happiness.
We hold to an ethical standard; we are all creatively and wonderfully different and made in the image of God. As Christian counselors we respect individuals’ different belief systems; therefore, we listen to hear rather to respond. It’s our job to encourage individuals to be a researcher of truth and to give direction and hope in their thinking and decision making. Our purpose is to address both the external behavior and the interior heart. Embracing His Call was founded to give hope with the purpose of teaching how to know God’s heart, to love unconditionally, to stand on God’s Word when facing challenges. The ministry embraces the prophetic, intercession, freedom and dream interpretation. Our goals: to guide the counselee in identifying and stating the problem, to provide scriptural insight for dealing with the problem, to help the counselee find answers to challenges through the application of scriptural principles and to promote biblical change that will transform lives.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Our purpose in life is as unique to you as your fingerprint. We all have a particular set of goals, values, talents, experiences, skill sets, and interests that light us up. To find your purpose, begin by defining what you value. Value has to do with how much something is worth or what you are holding in high regard. For example, if you value someone’s opinion you will ask that person’s advice before deciding. My mentor was my mother. She loved God, home, children, husband, church and the Word. She recognized my gifting and encouraged me to follow the giftings God gave me. I thought I wanted to be a secretary, but she saw the passion I had for children, the Word and people. I still remember her saying, “Susan, you love kids too much. You need to be a teacher.” At that time, I didn’t understand the fullness where that would lead me but the belief in her words and in me was a foundational stone that impacted my destiny.
To value is to understand a person’s giftings, principles or standards of behavior; one’s judgment of what is important in life and how we want to live our life. Values are like a compass that keep us headed in a desired direction and are distinct. When you value a mentor or a networking in general, you will use them as your guide. Therefore, values are chosen qualities of being and doing based on the purpose, value and experiences of your mentor.
