Hi Stephan , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I love people and I love science, so the practice of medicine has always attracted me. As a young boy I was fascinated with how things work and especially the human body. I was an athlete throughout my youth so sports medicine became a natural path for me. Thanks to a supportive family, amazing mentors and God’s blessing, I attended medical school at the University of South Florida and then completed residency at Harvard Medical School in Boston and Sports Medicine Fellowship at Mayo Clinic, Florida. I was team physician for the University of North Florida for 7 years and worked in a busy corporate medical practice in Jacksonville for 9 years but always felt a desire to craft a more personalized approach to sports medicine and lifestyle interventions.
In 2022, I opened my own medical practice called Esser Sports. Today my focus is on providing excellent, affordable, personalized sports and biologic care. I want my patients to feel heard, respected and valued and to receive the highest quality of sports medicine care at the lowest possible price. Although daunting at first, creating my own business has been an amazing blessing and I am grateful every day for the opportunity to be part of the health journey of my patients.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been an adventure and every high and low has taught me a little more about being human. Both my parents died before the age of 21 and those losses taught me a lot about the human experience of suffering, death and loss. These experiences have taught me to be more empathetic to my patients as they go thru their own challenges. Medical education was a long 12 yrs but every year I learned more about the human body and spirit and these experiences have crafted my practice of medicine today.
On the business side of things, opening my own medical practice has had it’s ups and downs. I took a big pay cut to start my own company, but traded the earnings for quality of life, freedom and the ability to incorporate my own ethos into my practice. I love what I do and continue to strive to improve every day.
As you know, we’re big fans of Esser Sports. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Esser Sports is my independent medical practice which provides individualized sports medicine and biologics care to patients of all ages. My focus is on helping patients get accurate and timely diagnosis, learn about their bodies and what their treatment options are. If I provide the treatment they require then I strive to provide that treatment with the highest quality and the lowest cost. One of the areas I specialize in is providing ” Biologic” injections which include Platelet Rich Plasma and Autologous Stem Cell injections to patients. I provide these at the most affordable price and the highest cell counts anywhere. I use top of the line imaging guidance for all injections and I do everything myself from drawing blood or stem cells to processing the materials and injecting. The greatest gift I get are the emails, texts and photos of my patients reporting their improvements.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a boy I loved the outdoors. Growing up in South Florida I loved climbing trees, swimming at the beach and spending countless hours on the tennis court. I had a passion for animals and plants and was always catching some animal or busy planting flowers, veggies or trees around the yard. I grew up at my Grandfathers’ health ranch which was located on a 10 acre mango farm in Lake Worth, FL. There I saw the power of the human body to heal thru simple, natural interventions. It was an amazing childhood that fostered many of my skills and passions today.
