His absence fueled a deep sense of purpose within me, driving me to pursue my cosmetology license as a means of honoring his memory and fulfilling my potential. Growing up, my parents instilled in me the values of entrepreneurship and hard work, which paved the way for my exploration of various ventures, including a paralegal firm and courier service, along with a salon in conjunction with being a real estate sales agent. However, it was through the art of cosmetology that I discovered a profound calling—a chance to serve others, uplift spirits, and express creativity. Embracing this path not only aligns with my God-given purpose but also symbolizes my journey of healing and empowerment, as I strive to create a brighter future for myself and those around me.

Starting a salon as a felon and a single mother of three children is a journey fraught with immense challenges. The stigma attached to my past often limits my opportunities, making it difficult to secure funding or a commercial lease. Landlords and lenders frequently turn away, leaving me with few options to bring my vision to life. This financial barrier adds stress, especially as I strive to provide for my children with limited support.

Compounding these challenges are the struggles I’ve faced with previous ventures. I had to close my paralegal firm when clients repeatedly failed to fulfill their financial responsibilities, leaving me feeling betrayed and disheartened. The experience not only drained my resources but also shattered my confidence in my ability to run a successful business. Similarly, the courier service faced its demise due to a lack of reliable labor and overwhelming financial obligations. Each closure felt like a personal defeat, reinforcing the fear that I might never achieve my dreams.

Balancing motherhood with these entrepreneurial endeavors adds another layer of complexity. With three teenagers to care for often conflict with the demands of running a business. I have to balance attending sports events, extracurricular activities, along with maintaining a balanced home life of helping with homework and providing nurture and love. Thankfully God sent me a village when times became hard.

Despite these hardships, my determination remains resolute. Each entrepreneurial setback has fueled my desire to succeed in opening my salon. It is not just a dream; it’s what I love; it’s a pathway to stability for my family and a testament to my resilience. I hold on to the hope that, with perseverance, I can create a nurturing environment where I can thrive and inspire my children to overcome their obstacles, just as I continue to confront mine.
