Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Moore.
Hi Josh, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I am originally from London. Whilst living in the UK, I got my Master’s Degree in Astrophysics. I moved to Jacksonville to be closer to my American family, and to enjoy a spot of sunshine.
It was here I met Siobhan (Sha-von) Christman, a Coach for Tesla, who covered Florida, Georgia, and Mexico. We were discussing the next moves in our respective careers. With her background as a green energy leader and my background in science, we were perfectly suited to start a company in the Solar Industry.
Lo and behold, Masterpiece Solar was born. Despite being in the Sunshine State, Jacksonville has a very low solar uptake – less than 1% of homes have gone solar. It is our mission to move that needle.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
All businesses face hurdles. Masterpiece was formed in January 2019.
After a year in business, 2020 and the global pandemic hit. We weathered that storm. Now, in 2022, the Florida legislature, which is conspicuously sponsored by the power utilities, is actively trying to squash the burgeoning solar industry. In the sunshine state.
Solar is a disruptive technology that challenges the 150-year monopolies enjoyed by the utilities, so it’s only natural they feel threatened. Unfortunately for them, solar is not going anywhere and will dramatically expand over the next 10 years and beyond.
As you know, we’re big fans of Masterpiece Solar. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Siobhan and I are co-owners of Masterpiece Solar. We are based in Jacksonville Florida. Our mission is to empower our people and power the world. We do this by educating and creating top-of-the-line solar projects for homeowners and business owners.
Solar projects can be daunting and complicated. A solar project, after all, is a physics problem. And, as I’m frequently told, nobody likes doing physics homework! Fortunately, I take care of that homework for our clients.
There are 40 million homes in the US that are not good candidates for solar – typically due to roof size and heavy shading. We crunch the numbers and determine if a system is a good investment – and we only move forward with beneficial projects.
We are uniquely placed to design systems optimized for clients’ needs, whilst only having their best interests at heart. We approach our solar projects with a view to making the home more efficient. More efficiencies mean a lower energy demand, which means it’s easier to get great results from a solar system.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
In our experience, the best recipe for success is consistency.
If you keep working on the fundamentals, day in and day out, you will see results. What are the fundamentals?
The basic elements required to grow your business: Formulating and improving your processes, developing relationships with clients and partners, and, one of the most crucial elements, constantly seeking to learn and increase your expertise.
