Inspiring Conversations with Jay Scherr of Jay Scherr Business Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Scherr.

Hi Jay, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I had a successful 30+ year corporate career, the last six with one of Warren Buffett’s companies. It was an incredible experience that shaped how I think about leadership, business, and people. Over time, though, I felt a pull to do something more personal—to take everything I’d learned and use it to help others grow. So, I made the leap from corporate to entrepreneurship and started my own coaching and consulting business.

Today, I help entrepreneurs, business owners, and leaders take control of their business and life, gain greater clarity on their goals and priorities, eliminate the excuses holding them back, unlock their potential, and create more freedom in their lives.

In addition to coaching and consulting, I host the Business Minds Coffee Chat podcast, where I interview extraordinary thought leaders, authors, entrepreneurs, and others who are making a real impact in the world. I also speak to audiences about leadership, mindset, and personal growth—topics I’m deeply passionate about and that align with my mission to help others rise to their potential.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and I wouldn’t want it to be. Growth rarely happens in comfort. Leaving a stable corporate career after more than 30 years to start my own business was both exciting and intimidating. There was uncertainty, self-doubt, and a lot to figure out. I had to shift from being part of a large organization with structure and resources to building everything from the ground up—brand, systems, clients, and all.

Early on, I also had to redefine success. In corporate, success was often tied to titles and metrics. As an entrepreneur, it became about impact, fulfillment, and alignment with my values. That mindset shift took time.

Like any meaningful journey, there were setbacks, but each challenge taught me something valuable about resilience, patience, and the importance of staying true to my purpose. Those lessons shaped not only my business but also how I help others navigate their own paths.

As you know, we’re big fans of Jay Scherr Business Consulting. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Jay Scherr Business Consulting, I work with entrepreneurs, business owners, and leaders who know they’re capable of more. They feel stuck or overwhelmed by the gap between where they are and where they want to be. My mission is simple: help my clients get clear on their goals and priorities, unlock their potential, and remove the excuses holding them back from becoming their best.

What sets my approach apart is that I don’t just focus on strategy or tactics—I dig deeper. Real, sustainable growth requires more than a good plan. It requires the right mindset, discipline, strong leadership skills, and genuine accountability. That’s where transformation happens. I help business owners develop these foundational qualities so they can grow their businesses and become the leaders they need to be to sustain that growth.

I specialize in working with entrepreneurs and business leaders who are ready to stop making excuses and start making progress. Whether they’re feeling stuck, dealing with self-doubt, struggling with consistent execution, or simply ready to level up, I provide the clarity, structure, and accountability they need to break through.

What I’m most proud of is the real, measurable change my clients experience. Not just in their revenue or business metrics, but in who they become as leaders and individuals. When someone walks away from our work together with newfound confidence, clarity, and the tools to keep pushing forward, that’s what it’s all about. I’m building a brand centered on honest, no-nonsense guidance that challenges people to rise to their potential and deliver on the promises they’ve made to themselves.

If there’s one thing I want your readers to know, it’s this: success isn’t reserved for people with the perfect circumstances or some special advantage. It’s available to anyone willing to commit to the work, embrace accountability, and keep pushing toward what they’re capable of achieving. That’s the foundation of everything I do.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’ve been blessed to have incredible people in my corner throughout different seasons of my journey. My father taught me about kindness and finding the good in everyone. My uncle taught me about work ethic and what it means to show up, do the work, and keep pushing forward no matter what.

I had a teacher early in life who believed in me and helped me believe in myself. I’ve also had mentors and bosses who saw potential I didn’t always see. They pushed me when I needed it and supported me when I doubted myself. Those relationships taught me the power of having someone in your corner who holds you accountable and challenges you to be better.

The truth is, no one gets where they are alone. We all need people who believe in us, challenge us, and remind us what we’re capable of when we lose sight of it. That’s why I’m so passionate about being that person for my clients. I know firsthand how much it matters to have someone who sees your potential and won’t let you settle for less than you’re capable of achieving.
