Hi James, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in 2015 and soon after spent a year in Colorado. While the experience was valuable, I quickly realized how much I missed the coast and being near the ocean. That pull led me across the country to New Bern, North Carolina, where I began the next chapter of my career. I spent seven years working alongside another doctor, learning not only how to be a better clinician, but how to care for people, build relationships, and serve a community. It was during that time that I met my wife, Kaila, and we were married.
By 2022, we both felt a strong calling to take the next step and open our own practice. We knew we wanted a coastal community that felt like home, so we searched up and down the East Coast. That search led us to what felt like our slice of heaven in Fernandina Beach, Florida. We made the move in November of 2023, and in February of 2024, we officially opened the doors to Coastal Chiropractic Clinic. Every step along the way led us exactly where we were meant to be, serving a community we love and building something that reflects our values, our faith, and our commitment to helping others live healthier lives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has not always been a smooth road. There have been plenty of bumps along the way, moments of uncertainty, setbacks, and times when the future felt unclear. Moving to a place where we knew nobody tested our faith and our confidence, and there were seasons when I was told I would never succeed or that our vision was unrealistic. Those moments could have been discouraging, but they became opportunities to grow.
Through prayer, the constant support of friends and family, and most importantly the unwavering strength of my wife, we were always able to push forward. When things felt overwhelming, faith kept us grounded, and perseverance carried us through. Every challenge shaped us, strengthened our resolve, and reinforced why we started this journey in the first place. Looking back, those obstacles were not roadblocks, but stepping stones that helped build the life and practice we are proud of today.

Coastal Chiropractic Clinic was built with intention, purpose, and a deep commitment to doing things the right way. We are not a high volume, one size fits all office. We take the time to listen, assess movement, and understand the root cause of pain rather than simply masking symptoms.
We specialize in hands on chiropractic care, sports and performance based treatment, and rehabilitation focused on long term results. Our approach integrates chiropractic adjustments with Active Release Techniques, dry needling, movement assessments, and corrective exercise to restore function and keep people active. Whether someone is an athlete, a busy parent, or simply wants to move better and live without pain, our goal is to help them get back to doing what they love.

How do you think about happiness?
What truly makes me happy is spending time with my wife and our dogs, enjoying the simple moments together and being present in this season of life. As we prepare to welcome our child this spring, there is a deep sense of gratitude and excitement for the future. Building our family, growing in faith, and creating a home filled with love and purpose brings more joy than any professional accomplishment ever could. This chapter of life has been a reminder that the greatest blessings are found in family, time together, and the life we are building side by side.
