Hi Elen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It was a photo on Pinterest that first caught my attention. I was looking for a Sweet 16 decoration for my niece. I had no ideas that you can make such wonderful things with balloons! It was the beginning of something special, and I began making custom balloon art installations. Trial and error and learning from my mistakes (and many of them) became my best friend. I started researching the market, did a business plan and made relationship with reliable vendors and balloon artists not only locally, but also from other parts of the world to share new trends in the market.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a balloon business involves careful planning and persistence to overcome hurdles like what I have experienced. Understanding the target market and competition is crucial. Without thorough research, it’s easy to misjudge demand on pricing, which can impact success. Establishing reliable suppliers and managing inventory effectively is essential. Building a customer base and gaining trust in the market takes time. It involves effective networking, promotions, and providing exceptional service. Also, there are regulations concerning the disposal of balloons and environmental impact, which requires compliance, High-quality balloon artistry and set up require skilled labor, and finding or training qualified staff can be challenging.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Balloons and Glitz started as a homebased local minority owned business that started in June of 2023. We specialized in creating bespoke or organic balloon installations that transform ordinary spaces into extraordinary experiences for any events. From business launching, corporate events, birthdays, weddings, or any other kind of events – Our expertise lies in designing custom balloon arches, elaborate balloon garlands, and themed balloon centerpieces that align perfectly with the client’s vision, whether its whimsical birthday party or elegant corporate event.
We are most proud of our ability to turn clients’ dreams into reality through balloon art. Each project is a unique challenge that allows me to push the boundaries of traditional balloon decor from balloon arches, sculptures, centerpieces, garlands, columns, balloon walls. Family and friends, most especially my husband – Bryan Tucker who provide emotional support, encouragement, and most of the time, my logistic manager. My good friends, Sheryll and Mike Thompson who became my supplier for board arches and florals. Bryan and Sheryll have been very patient with me – they assist with tasks such as blowing up balloons and install. Their support is vital for managing our growing business and meeting client demands. And lastly, Fil- American Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and Fil American Christian Ministry and past clients who actively promote our business.
