Daphne, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born & raised in Liberty City Miami, Fl. I’ve always been natural for most of my life. Growing up, I was never the girly girl type. I used to climb trees and play football with the boys from the neighborhood. So I was never the type to play dress-up with my sisters nor did I enjoy getting my hair done every Sunday. I never wore weave, fake lashes, or fake nails. Natural oils have always been a part of my daily routines. Especially when it comes to keeping my hair nourished and moisturized. I’ve always taken pride in wearing my natural hair. In high school, I wanted to loc my hair but my mom told me I had to wait until I was grown. My mother, aunty, and a bunch of my cousins already had beautiful locs and I wanted them so bad but I had to wait until I was grown and out of my parents’ house. After graduating from The Booker T. Washington sr high school in Miami I moved to Jacksonville to pretty much start a new life. In my senior year in high school, my mother allowed me to loc my hair since I was going off to college. For years I’ve been using natural oils to keep up with my natural beauty and I always receive compliments from amazing people everywhere I go. People are always asking me for advice on how I keep up with my natural beauty and I’m always putting them up on the game and sharing tips on how to do so. A couple of years ago a started making a business plan to come out with my own line of 100% natural (no chemicals) beauty products. I have a good following of people on my social media who are always asking me questions about what I use and how I use it. I told myself as soon as I’m done with college, I’m going to get this business going and off the ground. After graduating from The University of North Florida with a B.S in Sports Management & minor in business, literally that next month I started Queen Royal. I used my own money to get all the paperwork done and build my inventory. All of my 100% natural handmade products have the power to enhance what’s naturally beautiful and make it glow.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Towards the beginning of starting my company, I was serving at a restaurant here in Jacksonville. The job helped me with funding my business of course, because I wasn’t going to be a server forever and it was fast easy money while I was putting myself through school. Management was trash, and the managers had favoritism and think they can talk to you any kind of way. One day after getting into it with one of the managers, I was fired. Me being fired opened my eyes to a lot of things. It forced me to just step out on faith and launch my business at an earlier time. I’m glad I did, I created a source of income for myself and my family. I broke even in 3 months when it normally takes a small business a couple of years to do so (statistically proven). That was a very proud moment for me in my life. After accomplishing that, all I could think of was taking Queen Royal to the next level and getting more money.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My personality alone plays a huge part in my success. People always remember me when they meet me. Whether it was the conversation we had or the way we made eye contact. Lol. I’m always known for my good energy and conversations. I’m always smiling and in a good mood. I love to have conversations ranging from the importance of having good credit to aliens being on other planets. It’s an amazing feeling when people just randomly come up to me telling me about their life and they don’t know me from a can of paint. They always end it by saying I have good energy.
