Today we’d like to introduce you to Coco Scrone.
Hi Coco, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Germany, and both of my parents were heavily involved in real estate and design, so my passion for real estate was passed on to me in my DNA. I went to university and earned a doctorate in Physical Therapy. I practiced as a DPT for 16 years and taught at the University of Saint Augustine for 6 years. During my years as a DPT, I dabbled in real estate on the side. Then in 2004, I met my husband, Brian, who is as passionate about real estate as I am. So we don’t feel our work is “work” because we love what we do (most of the time). I am now a full-time real estate investor and have a decorating business for my clients. I have many out-of-town clients who don’t want to deal with furnishing their 2nd home, and I love “dealing” with furnishing a house and creating a welcoming home. Also, my husband and I own 9 short-term rental homes ( Cabanas, as we call them) in Saint Augustine. We are in the process of building 6+ new construction unique Cabanas in 2023. This will be a new experience for Brian and me as we historically renovate existing homes. So here we go to some new experiences in 2023!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My husband and I were both in real estate in 2008 – anyone in real estate back then knows it was not a fun time to be in this arena. But we survived, got stronger, and learned a ton -especially about what not to repeat!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about The Cabana Life?
The Cabana Life is a lifestyle company that focuses on creating unique Cabanas for others to enjoy as short-term rentals in Saint Augustine (but we are expanding!). My husband is a licensed realtor, and we find properties to transform into special vacation cabanas. We renovate properties to make them sparkle and give guests a unique experience. One of our most recent projects was a 1925 home in the heart of downtown Saint Augustine. We turned this 1925 home into “The Gatsby Mansion.” The Gatsby Mansion holds endless character and charm with the perfect blend of the speakeasy era and modern touches. We are super excited about this project coming to fruition as it will make many special memories for families, including hosting small weddings, reception dinners, and reunions.
What matters most to you? Why?
I am passionate about life because we are merely robots without passion. So I feel exceptionally blessed to be so passionate about my “work,” and to say that it doesn’t feel like the conventional meaning – it fills me with excitement and puts a sparkle in my eyes. I am even more passionate about my family – my husband and our 2 boys, Ziggy & Izzy. We are all so full of life and love exploring this world.
