Today we’d like to introduce you to Clifton Martin.
Hi Clifton, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Clifton Martin, and I was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. I’m the owner of You Go Boy Hibachi and Julian’s Tent Catering. My passion for food and hospitality started at a young age and led me to work at several well-known Jacksonville restaurants, including BB’s bistro Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Cowford Chophouse, and Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Barrique, where I learned from some of the best chefs and hospitality professionals in the city.
Julian’s Tent Catering helped introduce live hibachi catering experiences to events throughout Jacksonville, and I’ve been honored to win two Best Boss Catering Awards while receiving numerous nominations for my work in the industry.
You Go Boy Hibachi was built from a vision to create more than just great food—I wanted to create an experience. Through hard work, faith, and consistency, we’ve grown into a recognized local brand with a loyal customer base.
Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced challenges along the way, but those experiences taught me resilience and determination. Today, my goal is to continue growing my businesses, create opportunities for others, and inspire people to chase their dreams no matter where they start.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges I faced was starting and growing a business with limited resources. Like many entrepreneurs, there were times when cash flow was tight, equipment needed repairs, and every dollar had to be carefully managed. Building a customer base from the ground up was not easy, and there were many long days and late nights spent working to make the vision a reality.
Another challenge was balancing business ownership with family responsibilities. Running a restaurant and catering business requires a tremendous amount of time, energy, and sacrifice. There were many moments when I had to push through exhaustion and stay focused on the long-term goal.
The restaurant industry itself is full of challenges, from rising food costs and labor shortages to unexpected setbacks and competition. There were times when things didn’t go as planned, but each obstacle taught me valuable lessons about leadership, adaptability, and perseverance.
Looking back, those challenges helped shape me into the entrepreneur I am today. They taught me that success isn’t about avoiding obstacles—it’s about continuing to move forward when things get difficult.
