Inspiring Conversations with Angela Youngblood of Miracles by Angela Health and Beauty, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Youngblood.

Hi Angela, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
• My journey to becoming a doctor of functional medicine was unexpected but aligned with the many transformations of my life. My call has always been to care for others, especially in their most vulnerable state. I started my first round of servitude as a CNA at Goldwater Memorial Hospital in NYC at the age of 18. Those initial years of training opened my eyes to the healthcare system’s broader needs and deepened my compassion for patients. My desire to assist in a greater capacity led to becoming an LPN, an RN, and eventually a licensed administrator. At this point, I’d grown to really love working with senior clients diagnosed with dementia.
• Becoming a licensed administrator took me on an unexpected detour in my career. In 2007, I was the administrator for an assisted living facility in Columbia, SC. The daughter of one of the clients came to me distressed about the unexpected increase in her mother’s bill. Too often, I had the burden of comforting loved ones struggling to care for their seniors while still navigating life at home. Unfortunately, the budget increases were beyond my control, as finances meant more to these facilities than the people. With compassion, I acknowledged her hurt, but with determination, I came up with a solution. Months after that meeting, I opened my very own assisted living home. For over ten years, my home had the pleasure of offering peace to caregivers and comfort to their loved ones until I was spiritually called to move to Florida in 2018. Once again, I found myself the administrator for assisted living homes in Jacksonville, FL. To my disappointment, major facilities had only gotten worse with their desire to increase their bottom line.
• Throughout my career, I’d always noticed the decrease in the benefits of medications being offered to patients. Increasingly, the expense of those medications was going up, but positive results were hit or missed based on the diagnosis. With a nudge from the Lord, I began to study herbalism and the benefits of using natural herbs to heal our bodies. My initial studies led me to become a Master herbalist. I was astounded by the results of the herbal teas, drinks, topical creams, etc. I’d created using what the earth provides. Being the overachiever that I am, I expanded my research and studies and became a Holistic Health Practitioner.
• As a Holistic Health Practitioner, my desire was to address the healing of the body, mind, and spirit. Our bodies are multifaceted, so if your mind and spirit are crushed, your body carries the evidence. The final step of my journey was enrolling into a rigorous program to become a doctor of functional medicine. Now, as a doctor of functional medicine, I can order lab work, do assessments, and customize treatments.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Healthcare is a difficult field to navigate. Laws and policies are ever-changing, but the patients are the last consideration in decision-making. My initial struggle with natural medicine was navigating the fear-mongering of larger distributors. A lot of my initial clients were desperate for relief after failed hospital journeys, but feared stepping into the unknown due to public opinion.
I also had the misfortune of battling the overnight influx of TikTok herbalists. There was one instance where a woman’s face was destroyed by acid from a turmeric face bar made by one of these individuals. I want to be taken more seriously than those who use herbalism as a means of cash-grabbing. Medicine has been the very foundation of my career. I know the dangers of measuring incorrectly or diagnosing incorrectly. I am part of a network of highly educated and experienced doctors as a doctor of functional medicine.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

My walk with Jesus Christ is the very first step in my happiness. Without His guidance, grace, and mercy, I wouldn’t be who I am today. He has ordered my steps so intentionally, and I am grateful.
