Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was a school teacher and administrator for over two decades. I regularly practiced yoga and even did a yoga teacher training course, just for fun. As my career in education took me in different directions over the years, I landed at a crossroads in 2017, with no strong sense of the next step to take professionally. I had been a member of the Yoga Den in Jacksonville for many years and learned that they planned to sell some of their studios as franchises. I had never owned a business, never thought of owning a business and didn’t even teach yoga very often, but once I heard about this I had a strong feeling that this was what I wanted to do. And so, I purchased the Yoga Den studio in Fleming Island.
It has now been eight years since I took that leap of faith and followed my passion. I’ve learned much about running a business and have loved serving the community with yoga classes.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a road paved with opportunities to learn, grow and experiment. It was a shock to discover how many expenses are involved with a brick and mortar studio space. And, of course, Covid was a massive bump in the road. Keeping the business going through Covid helped me build confidence and bolstered my ability to be calm during the ebbs and flows that are part of this business. I have learned to stay focused on the clients we serve, building and nurturing the community and the value of what we offer.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Yoga Den Fleming Island?
We are here to provide a safe and welcoming space, high-quality yoga instructors. and classes that are accessible and meet people where they are. Yoga’s benefits include the cultivation of a strong, flexible, balanced body and a calm, peaceful state of mind.
Yoga Den is a network of locally-owned studios, started in 2002 in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville. I am grateful to be part of Yoga Den as I believe in the brand’s emphasis on “permission language,” which empowers students to make the practice personal, thus building confidence and accentuating the mind-body connection.
We are proud to be the yoga studio version of Cheers- the place where everybody knows your name. We value proactive communication and excellent customer service. We truly care about people and offer a listening ear and a welcoming community. Our schedule of classes offers something for everyone.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the many neighborhoods and areas, each with its own vibe.
What I like least about Jacksonville is the hot summers and the need to drive to get almost anywhere.
