Hidden Gems: Meet Stephanie Barros of Bar Rose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Barros.

Stephanie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi, my name is Stephanie Barros and I’ve always had a passion for fashion and dreamed about one day having my own clothing line. I was wondering about the medical field in Miami and was not happy where I was. I quit my job and a few weeks later Covid hit. My family and I were planning on moving to Jacksonville but had to put our plans on hold due to a pandemic.

I began to think to myself what stopped me from opening my business before and I was got the same answer TIME!!! We’ll thank the pandemic and being on lockdown I realized the universe finally gave me the time I needed. So I began looking into how much it would cost and started working on my business plan. And now here I am a fresh hopefully up and coming business.

Oh, and in case you didn’t catch it my company name Bar Rose is a play on my last name. Growing up, I always had people mispronounce my name so I would always say it’s Bar and Rose as a flower and that is how Bar Rose was born.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve had plenty of struggles along the way. One of the main bumps in the road was realizing now everyone is cheering for you. I had many acquaintances and friends so I figured selling clothing would be easy. I have countless love and support.

Until it actually opened all the people I thought would support me. Would buy clothing from major companies instead of mine and wouldn’t even tell their families or friends about my business. Of course, I had other bumps in the road such as being inexperienced and spending money paying people to help me with things I could’ve done myself.

However, seeing not everyone was cheering for me was the biggest bump in the road. That’s why I appreciate all the love and support I get from my close friends and family members that support me.

As you know, we’re big fans of Bar Rose. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a small clothing line that knows not all flowers bloom the same. At Bar Rose, we encourage people to be raw and to be themselves and to wear whatever makes them feel like the beautiful Rose that they are.

To be comfortable and brave in their own skin. However, be warned as beautiful as roses to look at if you grip them too tight they hurt you.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Honestly, I have yet to find a mentor but I will recommend going to your public library. They are a great free resource and have a lot of helpful books.
