Hi Sharmalyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started 7 years ago, my motivation was having issues with Nannie’s I found on a very popular online website/nanny service.
When I complained to this service about having to call emergency services because the nanny gave my baby an ice pack (the one with the little beads in it and bright red btw), instead of a teether; I was told by the site “they allow anyone with a clean background check to register, it’s up to you to find out if they can take care of children”. Direct quote. I thought to myself but what a travesty.
As a mom, I see their commercials and big ads and I assumed they did some due diligence. Hence cuteasabuttonstaffing, a boutique online nanny service that actually vets all our Nannies personally. I conduct 30 minutes to an hour interview with all our Nannies.
I’ve met quite a few in-person and used their services for my own children. All I want when I leave my kids with someone is to have peace of mind. My hands-on approach offers parents that.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not lol, especially for the fact I’m what you may call a serial entrepreneur.
I have my hands in a lot, I’m also a working cooperative executive and a single mom of two. So a lot of hats, but here again is why this business is a need for moms like myself.
Without a nanny how would we manage to get it all done and make it seem effortless?

What sets us apart is my personal approach, I’ve kept the business at a size, where it never goes beyond my why. To vet and access each nanny and manny. To get a personal feel of who these people are. Our sustainability has surprised me.

What were you like growing up?
Oh my goodness, quiet lol. I don’t believe any other word pops into mind. I was extremely shy, so I’m still introverted and prefer small or private settings now.
Then anything over 10 people made me want to crawl into a ball and hide lol. I also loved the arts. I was a huge fan of the works of Monet and Leonardo Di Vinci thanks to my dad an accomplished artist.
I won several competitions, I also played piano and read sheet music (still do), almost made it to the spelling bee once, emphasis on almost, lol.
