Hi Rodney, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
So many negative and positive events have all played a role in my life. On the surface, learning and obsessing about taking care of my own car was how it started. Observations by my peers of my car care habits, served as a reminder that what was normal to me was considered extraordinary to most. Digging deeper, I am someone many people would label as an eccentric personality. I am a educated man who is probably not the best at interviews. I have awkward moments. Yet I have also connected with strangers. I don’t believe in black and white solutions or customer interactions without depth. I appreciate and identify with the subtle benefits of luxury experiences. I was the person always yelled at for taking too long and not accepting ‘ok’ being not good enough. But somehow I fit in as a premium provider and have gained the trust of people to provide $3,000 detailing services.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have and continue to be numerous struggles. Although most detailing business owners running similar operations face the same challenges. For one, a majority people do not understand or appreciate professional detailing. What is even more challenging out of the pool of potential clients, many do not know that they fall into that category. There is a lot of misinformation that not only consumers but some impressionable young detailers are led to believe.

A current obstacle is matching expectations with pricing and services. Many consumers inquire with the mindset that all or most detailing services are simple one-size-fits all products. The opposite is true. When you add that both parties tend to underestimate the cost of running a detailing business, there is going to be dissatisfaction. When a customer asks how much for a detail or ceramic, there is an assumption that a credible business should immediately provide a price. The opposite is true. Having a conversation about needs, condition of vehicle, and options is a sign we care. Relaying that message to someone who assumes detailing is a simple 1 or 2 step process is very difficult.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mirror Reflections Auto Spa?
I am the owner of Mirror Reflections Auto Spa. I am a the sole operator. My specialty is paint correction and ceramic coatings. My focus is on providing mobile services for car detailing enthusiasts. I am considered a bespoke premium operator.

What distinguishes me is my name behind my logo. That is my brand. My clients know my focus is not on fast I can detail a car or the cost effectiveness of products. They trust my expertise, which is superior to most. They also trust my integrity. From their own feedback and personal experience this has become extremely rare.

How do you think about luck?
Both played an incredible role. Fluctuations in the economy, even for an operator who caters to a more affluent market, can be challenging. There are social media platforms and systems within the government that are not perfect. But I have also been blessed to recieve support at pivotal and unexpected times.
