Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariah Goelz
Hi Mariah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2017, my mom and I opened Cultivate with a passion for thoughtful living and shopping local. We love to travel and stopping into small, locally owned shops has always been something we love to do together. When we opened, there were not many shops like us and we were fortunate enough to create such a magical and beautiful space that has been impacted by so many people. Over the years, we’ve nurtured this space and carefully selected vendors who share our commitment to our core values of small scale, environmentally conscious, and unique items. The space has evolved over the years and has found it’s stride as a beacon of creativity and inclusion. Cultivate offers a dynamic collection of plants, tools, playthings, and more, each piece chosen for its quality and commitment to other small businesses. We’re always seeking fresh brands and designs, ensuring Cultivate remains a place of discovery.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I will count my blessings and say it has been a smooth road. There have definitely been some struggles along the way, but I truly feel like when you stand up for what is good and just, things work out.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Cultivate is a place of inclusion, creativity, and open mindedness. It is someplace that, when I walk in I feel like I am home. I love beautiful things, and we have worked so hard to hand select each and every item. We vet all our vendors to make sure they align with our core valves. We welcome local artisans and give them a place to sell their work. We work with refugees and give 100% of the money from the sale of their items back to them. It is someplace I am so incredibly proud of. I say it is my love letter to Jacksonville.
How do you define success?
Success for me is being able to open our doors every day to our community and our customers. The fact that people show up and support our work, brings me to tears, honestly. Success is feeling like you belong and that what you work for every day has purpose and meaning. Cultivate is that tenfold.
