Hidden Gems: Meet Maggie & Tessa Taylor of Sunrise Brew Coffee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie & Tessa Taylor.

Hi Maggie & Tessa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our story really started with a shared dream. We always knew we wanted to own a small coffee shop by the beach — a place that felt welcoming, where people could slow down, connect, and spend hours just talking like we always loved to do. Coffee shops were always our favorite environments, and we wanted to create our own version of that — our perfect little space, not just for us, but for the community around us.
In 2024, we got the opportunity to take over Sunrise Brew, a coffee truck started by an amazing friend who was ready to move in a different direction. It felt like everything aligned at the right time. We jumped in, knowing the truck wasn’t the end goal, but the starting point for something bigger.
As we grew the business, we were always looking for a space that matched the vision we had from the beginning. When we finally found a location that felt like us, we went all in. In August 2025, we opened our brick-and-mortar café just across from the beach, in an area that’s continuing to grow.
Now, Sunrise Brew has become everything we hoped for — a space where people can gather, hang out, and feel part of something. It’s been a natural evolution from truck to café, all rooted in the same original dream.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not even close — it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but that’s been part of what’s shaped us.
Starting with the truck, we were thrown into everything at once — long days, early mornings, learning how to run a business in real time, and figuring things out without a roadmap. There were moments of burnout, financial pressure, and just the reality of being young business owners trying to make the right decisions with a lot on the line.
Transitioning into the brick-and-mortar brought a whole new set of challenges. Construction delays, unexpected costs, staffing, and just the mental load of building something from the ground up tested us in ways we didn’t fully anticipate. There’s also a lot that people don’t see — the behind-the-scenes stress, problem-solving, and constant pressure to make everything work while still showing up every day for your customers.
On top of that, being sister-owned means we’ve had to learn how to balance business and our relationship, which hasn’t always been easy. But it’s also one of our biggest strengths.
At the end of the day, none of it has been easy, but every challenge has pushed us to grow. We’ve learned how to adapt, trust each other, and stay grounded in why we started — and that’s what’s kept us moving forward.

As you know, we’re big fans of Sunrise Brew Coffee. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Sunrise Brew is more than just a coffee shop to us — it’s a space built around connection, intention, and creating an experience people want to come back to. At the core, we’re a specialty coffee café with a fun, elevated menu, but what truly defines us — especially in such a saturated coffee market — is our customer service.
From the beginning, we’ve been incredibly intentional about making Sunrise feel like a family. We don’t want it to feel transactional or rushed — we want every person who walks in to feel seen, welcomed, and known. We’re hands-on every day, learning names, remembering orders, having real conversations, and creating genuine relationships with the people who support us. That level of care is something we believe really sets us apart.
We always say we want Sunrise to be a “third space” — not home, not work, but somewhere you genuinely want to be. A place where you can come after the beach, meet a friend, get work done, or just reset for a little while. The atmosphere, the energy, and the way our team interacts with customers are all built around that idea.
Of course, we’re also known for our drinks — from our signature cold brews to creative seasonal lattes — and for offering more health-conscious options that align with our lifestyle. But at the end of the day, people can get coffee anywhere. What they come back for is how a place makes them feel.
Brand-wise, that’s what we’re most proud of. Sunrise Brew is a direct reflection of us — warm, welcoming, and community-driven. It’s not just about serving great coffee, it’s about creating a space where people feel like they belong.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Honestly, our favorite childhood memories are just centered around being together. We’re so close in age that we did everything side by side — we had the same friends, the same routines, and were pretty much inseparable growing up.
A lot of our time was spent outside — exploring, learning how to surf, playing for hours, or catching fish in the pond near our house. It was very simple, very active, and really rooted in just enjoying where we were and who we were with.
Looking back, those moments shaped a lot of who we are today — not just as sisters, but as business partners. That closeness, trust, and shared experience is something we’ve carried into Sunrise Brew, and it’s a big part of why creating a space centered around connection has always felt so natural to us.
