Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristopher Sawyer.
Hi Kristopher, We are so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In 2015, while working in the barber industry, I decided to add to my skill set. It was time for a change, and for the first time, I realized it was going to take everything I had learned in the past to do so. I come from a gifted family of barbers. My dad and older brother were blessed with the talent to cut hair in their early days. It was apparent to me later in life that I would continue with that same skill set. Cutting hair was my ticket to where I am today. I was always self-conscious about my appearance. 20 years in the barber industry has allowed me to break barriers and set trends. So, being presentably groomed and dressed up has always been my thing, and it still is today. This part of my story is where it all began.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been relatively smooth so far?
The path to success in the fashion, photography, and male grooming industry has not always been excellent. However, the journey to it was and is still worth it. Asking for help, being able to link with the right people, and being given opportunities came very few at times. Nevertheless, I remained faithful, stayed consistent, and connected with those who wanted to see me win as much as I did myself. This was all centered around my faith, family, and friends.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your business.
2016, I returned to the fashion retail industry, where my next career move began. I started working for Nordstrom as a guest services employee in the personal styling and customer service department. It took work getting into the company after five denied interviews. However, after I continued to show a high passion for fashion style and the importance of being presentable and professional at all times, the door that remained closed finally became open. I worked there seasonally, but in a short amount of time, I was able to grasp and learn about the business. I decided to go into business as a personal stylist with hair grooming and fashion style expertise. Using my professional license, I combined them to create a company that provided everything style-related. Mr. Peculiar Styles became the foundation of giving people a sense fashion of style with my expertise and industry knowledge. Head-to-toe transformations became natural as I interacted with people from different walks of life, their personalities, and what style meant to them. I’ve been blessed to work with so many people who needed help putting something together for an event or just wanted to change their look. Adding more to my list of skill sets, I started my photography journey, giving clients photoshoots of their liking. I’m now a professional photographer as well. I currently have a full operating style studio where I provide hair grooming services, fashion styling makeovers, and photoshoots.
What were you like growing up?
I was always one to be very mindful about how I looked in front of people fashion-wise. I was taught to make sure you have a good impression on those you look up to and those who look up to you. I played basketball a lot growing up and clowned all the time. Of all my skills, my humor is the most valuable. Even when things aren’t going right, I still find something to laugh about my situations, good or bad. Regarding things I’m primarily interested in, fashion, food, family, and faith.
