Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Bynum.
Hi Kathryn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My career in the marketing industry started in the United States Marine Corps. After military service, I freelanced in the creative world for a few years. I realized I have a natural talent for entrepreneurship and am passionate about leading those around me to go after their dreams. The 8 years I spent in media and public affairs have deeply influenced my way of doing business today. I started Concrete & Palm with the vision of building a marketing agency that challenges every aspect of the industry, takes what works, and leaves the rest behind.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My life has not been easy. I faced a lot of challenges during my military service. I am a sexual assault survivor and lost many dear friends, including my partner, to suicide. The resilience I discovered in myself is the most important element of my success.
I am facing my challenges prepared for the challenges of starting an agency and hiring a team. Selecting talented and passionate creatives is only half the battle. It has been a steep learning curve, but I am dedicated to creating a healthy, inclusive, and empowering work environment for our team.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Concrete & Palm?
Concrete & Palm is a female and veteran-owned, full-service marketing agency. Our agency was born out of a desire to raise standards in our industry through excellent client experiences and empowering business owners to be educated consumers. We deliver better solutions to business owners and build lasting relationships in our community. We firmly believe aesthetics and the visual appeal must be backed by strategy, experience, and education to deliver results.
What would you say has been one of your most important lessons?
Stay true to your values. I am being selective of the clients we take on, paying my team a livable wage, providing support when they have personal issues, standing up for what I believe in, telling people no, and pushing the envelope. All those things have been scary at the moment but also make me proud of the life and business I have built.
