Hidden Gems: Meet Joseph Cacioppo of Cacioppo Bookkeeping

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Cacioppo.

Joseph Cacioppo

Hi Joseph, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my business, Cacioppo Bookkeeping, at the beginning of 2025. My wife had owned a photography business for a few years prior, and I had always enjoyed doing her bookkeeping and analyzing her numbers. After doing some research, I realized that I could do bookkeeping for other businesses too, and that sounded really exciting to me! I took some courses, got certified as a QuickBooks ProAdvisor, and have helped a number of clients with their books since my business started last year! I have always been a numbers nerd, and I also love to organize everything in my life, so getting to help people organize their numbers is just a dream come true!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge I faced was the fact that my wife got pregnant with our fourth child just a few months after I started my business! When we found out she was pregnant, we had a 5-year-old boy, a 3-year-old boy, and a 1-year-old girl, so navigating her first trimester struggles while helping manage the household and growing my business was very difficult. But, we got through it, and now we have another beautiful baby boy in our family, so it’s been totally worth it! Luckily, since I love to organize so much, I have learned a lot about time management over the years and organizing my calendar, so I was still able to have great business success even throughout those tough months. The challenge of managing all these responsibilities did help me to grow even more as a professional and as a dad, so I’m grateful for the experience even though it was so hard!

We’ve been impressed with Cacioppo Bookkeeping, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business does bookkeeping for small businesses and non-profits. I love to help overwhelmed business owners who are so pressed for time. Taking bookkeeping off their plates really frees up their time to focus on running their business, generating sales, or simply enjoying their lives more! They don’t have time to be fighting dumb QuickBooks issues.

What I enjoy about my business so far is how organized it is. I’m very strict about how I do things, to make sure I’m really doing things right for all my clients and never missing deadlines. I’ve done a ton of work to make sure nothing falls through the cracks in my business.

Something else that I’ve gotten great feedback on is how I explain things. My clients have told me that they really enjoy how I explain things and that I do it in a way they can actually understand. Numbers and financial statements can be really confusing to read and understand, so I’m glad that my clients are understanding their numbers better since they started having me do their books for them.

One of my favorite services is doing a clean-up of a messy set of books for a business. In QuickBooks, it’s easy for your books to get out of hand quickly if you don’t know what you’re doing. It’s super frustrating for business owners to try to get it right! I’ve learned a lot about QuickBooks since I started bookkeeping, and it’s kind of fun for me to clean up messy books. It’s like a big puzzle for me to solve. After I clean up the books, I always send a video to my clients to explain all the changes and why they’re important, which has been well received. Then, I love helping those businesses to keep their books up to date every month so they stay clean!

I truly believe that having your bookkeeping set up properly is super underrated, especially if you outsource it. It saves so much time and provides an incredible amount of clarity about business numbers so that business owners can make more strategic decisions. It’s awesome!

Lastly, I am a dad to 4 amazing little kids, so I understand the struggle of being a busy business owner and a busy parent at the same time. It’s really hard! I love to help overwhelmed parents in particular, since I really know how tough it can be to wear so many hats.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
By nature, I am more of a listener than a talker. I love to listen to people, hear their stories, and learn from their experiences. Something I’ve learned is that people love to talk about their stories and share their amazing experiences with others, so asking lots of questions and being genuinely interested in other people is so important. Being a curious person has helped me a lot. I also have had great success with following up with people I’ve talked to at networking events. The follow-ups and getting together with people 1-on-1 are where the relationships really start to form and grow.
