Today we’d like to introduce you to Ingang Han.
Hi Ingang, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Founding a beautifully designed, inspiring music school has long been a dream for me. I grew up in structured music school systems, where I learned how good training shapes a musician’s future. While most professional violinists begin training at their early age, I started later age, facing challenges such as poor posture, slow progress, and the need to rebuild technique from the ground up. These experiences taught me one powerful truth: a strong foundation in childhood is essential for joyful, healthy, and successful violin playing. When I won an audition with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, it encourages me to found The Violin Studio, a school dedicated to providing the kind of foundation and support I wished I had from the very beginning.
Jacksonville deserves serious music education system like major cities have. The Violin Studio is committed to becoming a core part of the city’s music education community. I have developed creative programs, expanded performance opportunities within community, and built a curriculum designed to give students the strong foundation.
Music has the power to change lives. At The Violin Studio, we strive to create an environment where every student is inspired, supported, and equipped to reach their full artistic potential. Our goal is not only to develop skilled violinists but to nurture confident, disciplined, and creative individuals.
Teaching musicians and helping them discover their potential is at the heart of everything our school does. Each lesson, performance experience, and strong bonding through music shape the next generation of artists.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building our music school has certainly come with challenges. Starting a business required us to take hard works such as promoting our vision, earning the trust of new students, and demonstrating the quality of our program. We quickly learned that running a school involves far more than teaching; it requires strong communication, organization, and ongoing outreach.
Another major challenge has been forming meaningful relationships within the community. We actively seek partnerships to create performance opportunities for our students, but developing those connections takes time, persistence, and patience. We have had to consistently introduce ourselves to new organizations, nurture long-term relationships, and continually show our commitment to high-quality music education.
Through these experiences, we have learned the importance of resilience and steady communication. Every challenge has strengthened us as a team and helped our school grow into the community-centered program we envisioned.
Today, we are proud to be building strong partnerships with local churches, Mayo Clinic, Baptist Health, and renowned violin shops such as Atlantic Strings, all to provide exceptional opportunities and experiences for our students.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Violin Studio?
We are also committed to building connections with local communities to create opportunities that benefit both our students and the organizations we partner with. Music is a gift, and we want our students to experience that gift through real, impactful experiences.
The Violin Studio also has a Studio Class where students can gather as a group, play for each other, and share comments. This is something music schools in colleges and conservatories do to grow together. Students in this class will build confidence, gain performance experience, and learn from one another. This is something a typical music school cannot offer, but our specialized curriculum can.
Studying the violin is far more than taking one-on-one lessons. It is a performing art which requires students to face challenges, gain courage, and grow through experience. Daily practice is not just about improving technique; it is about learning to embrace the challenges each new day brings. The discipline built through consistent practice will serve our students no matter which paths they choose in life, helping them stay strong and pursue their goals with determination.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I chose my career path, my parents respected my decision and trusted my commitment. We were not a wealthy family, but they supported me as fully as they could. Still, I was just a young boy who loved playing video games, and there were times when I didn’t take my responsibility to practice the violin seriously.
One day, my mother came home and found me playing games instead of practicing. Feeling disappointed, she took my violin and left the house. She told me she had sold it because she could no longer watch me neglect the commitment, I said I wanted to pursue. I was devastated. I cried and regretted my actions for nearly three weeks.
Eventually, I learned the truth: she had kept the violin in the trunk of her car the entire time. Her intention was never to take music away from me, but to teach me a powerful life lesson that if I wanted to follow this path, I needed to work hard and take full responsibility for it. That moment changed me, and it remains one of the most important lessons of my life.
