Today we’d like to introduce you to Gloria Staats.
Hi Gloria, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
We arrived at Saint John’s 20 years ago. My husband retired from the USNavy, and we decided to settle in this area to give the boys a stable place to complete their schooling. I decided to put together my Psychology background for my love of design and hospitality and help others create beautiful and curated spaces.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I love working from home, but it can be very challenging at the same time. Keeping your concentration and staying on task can be difficult when things happening at home need your attention. What started with a desire to help others and create beauty started to take more and more of my time. I eventually realized that if I wanted to keep doing what I do, I had to be profitable, which required me to set systems that allowed my team and myself to offer consistent service and results. I am creative. I love making things functional and beautiful spaces; I have also had to learn to find other people who have strengths that I do not have so that there is a balance. This balance allows us to improve our systems and operations.
Great, so let’s talk business. What do you do? What do you specialize in? Please tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others.
I offer Curated Interior Design for homeowners or short-term rental owners looking to create unique and personalized environments.
What are you known for?
Since I have a Masters’s degree in Psychology, I use my background and training to utilize color to alter and improve spaces.
What sets you apart from others?
I love working with individuals who want a space of their own. I love incorporating what matters to my clients into the design of their homes.
What are you most proud of brand-wise?
I listen to my clients, and our goal is to create spaces that respect the home’s architecture while reflecting the owner’s passion and goals.
What do you want our readers to know about your brand, offerings, services, etc.?
Working with Peace of Mind Design, the main goal will be to create a unique space that fulfills your purpose. When meeting my clients, we will start with a Discovery Call. If we decide to work together, we will begin with a Consultation to assess goals, plan the project, and choose the best way to move forward.
Networking and finding a mentor can positively impact one’s life and career. Any advice?
I have worked for a few years with an interior designer’s coach. She has been fantastic. If you can find someone to mentor you who specializes in your field, that may be the best choice for you.
