Hidden Gems: Meet Courtney Fletcher of InnerSea Yoga Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Fletcher.

Courtney Fletcher

Hi Courtney, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey with yoga began after a spinal fusion ended my path as a competitive gymnast. I first tried yoga as a teenager—and honestly, I hated it. It wasn’t until college, when I gave it another chance with my roommates, that everything shifted. I found a teacher who taught me how to truly connect to my breath and listen to my body, and that changed everything.

I began creating my own home practices, and while my body started to feel better, what impacted me most was the sense of calm I experienced in my mind—something I had never felt before. That curiosity led me deeper into the study of yogic philosophy.

After college, I traveled to India to work with a nonprofit organization, and while I was there, I completed an intensive three-month yoga teacher training. That experience gave me the tools to teach students of all ages and abilities, and it solidified my path.

From there, I moved to Costa Rica and began teaching under the name “Sirena Yoga.” It was a beautiful chapter that allowed me to refine my voice as a teacher and deepen my connection to the practice. Later, as I began raising my children, I returned to Florida, where I started teaching in schools and eventually began leading yoga teacher training programs. This was the birth of InnerSea Yoga Academy.

Teaching these trainings has become my greatest purpose. There is nothing more powerful than witnessing students step into their confidence, reconnect with themselves, and realize the depth of their own potential. Today, I offer yoga teacher trainings for both high school students and adults—online and in person—through InnerSea Yoga Academy, continuing to support others in discovering their own path through this practice.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. My journey really began with an unexpected loss—having spinal fusion surgery ended my identity as a competitive gymnast at a young age. That experience forced me to rebuild my relationship with my body from the ground up, which wasn’t easy physically or emotionally.

Even my path into yoga wasn’t immediate. I resisted it at first, and it took time—and the right teacher—for me to open up to the practice in a meaningful way.

Later on, building a career in yoga came with its own challenges. I was navigating new countries, new cultures, and trying to establish myself as a teacher while still refining my voice and confidence. There were also practical realities—financial uncertainty, inconsistent income, and the pressure of creating something sustainable from passion.

Becoming a mother added another layer. Balancing raising children while growing a business required me to evolve quickly, manage my time in a completely new way, and let go of perfection. There were moments of burnout, self-doubt, and questioning whether I could truly hold both roles fully.

But each of those challenges shaped the work I do today. They deepened my empathy, strengthened my resilience, and clarified my purpose. Now, when I guide others through their own transformations, I’m not speaking from theory—I’m speaking from lived experience.

We’ve been impressed with InnerSea Yoga Academy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
InnerSea Yoga Academy is centered around making the depth of yoga both accessible and transformative. At its core, my work focuses on yoga teacher training—but what truly defines it is the way I translate complex yogic philosophy, neuroscience, and inner work into practical tools that students can apply in their everyday lives.

I’m known for the level of transformation my students experience. Beyond learning how to teach yoga, they walk away with lifelong tools to regulate their nervous system, understand their patterns, and access a deeper sense of presence, clarity, and purpose. This isn’t just about becoming a teacher—it’s about becoming more fully yourself.

One of the things that sets my work apart is the range of students I’ve taught. I’ve worked with all ages, from children to adults, which has shaped my ability to communicate these teachings in a way that is both grounded and relatable, while still honoring their depth.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the impact: having guided over 800 students through this work so far. That number represents hundreds of individual transformations, and it continues to grow. It’s incredibly meaningful to witness people reconnect with themselves and step into their own path with more confidence and awareness.

Currently, I offer both virtual and in-person yoga teacher training programs for teens and adults. For high school students, I’m also a Florida StepUp provider, which allows them to graduate with a globally recognized certification and a real career pathway already in place. For adults, the trainings serve both those who want to teach and those who are seeking deep personal growth. These courses are offering on a continuous monthly basis throughout the year.

More than anything, I want people to know that this work is about access—access to the deeper layers of your mind, your energy, and your potential. When you have the right tools and guidance, you can create profound shifts in how you experience your life—and that’s what this academy is here to support.

How do you define success?
I define success not by titles, income, or external recognition, but by the depth of transformation and presence I—or those I guide—experience. For me, it’s about living in alignment with my values, showing up fully, and helping others do the same.

Success is seeing my students step into their own confidence, gain clarity, and walk away with tools that transform their lives. It’s knowing that the work I’ve done has empowered someone to access a deeper part of themselves, to feel more joy, resilience, and purpose.

Ultimately, success is about impact over accolades—creating meaningful, lasting change in myself and others, and contributing to a world where people can thrive in body, mind, and spirit.
