Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Roussell.
Hi Ashley, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into healthcare started with a deep desire to help people in a meaningful and lasting way. I began my career in nursing, earning my Bachelor of Science in Nursing after initially studying psychology. That foundation helped shape how I view patient care—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.
As I gained experience, I knew I wanted to do more, so I pursued my Master of Science in Nursing and became a Family Nurse Practitioner. Over time, I expanded my role into education, becoming a professor and helping guide future nurses through their own journeys.
While working in traditional healthcare settings, I started to see gaps—patients felt rushed, access was limited, and care often felt disconnected. I knew there had to be a better way. That’s what led me to start my own practice, NOLA Care.
Building NOLA Care allowed me to return to the roots of medicine—spending time with patients, focusing on prevention, and creating real relationships. Since then, I’ve continued to grow the practice, expanding services and reaching patients across multiple states through both in-person and telehealth care.
Today, I balance clinical practice, teaching, and business ownership, all centered around one goal: improving access to quality, patient-centered healthcare while helping others grow in the profession along the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most things worth building, there have been challenges at every stage.
Early on, balancing school, work, and personal life was tough. Nursing and advanced practice programs are demanding, and learning how to stay disciplined and focused while managing everything else was a challenge in itself.
As I transitioned into practice, I started to see the realities of the healthcare system—limited time with patients, administrative burdens, and barriers to access. That was frustrating because I knew patients deserved more, but it also pushed me to think differently.
Starting my own practice brought a whole new set of challenges. Building a business from the ground up requires taking risks, learning things outside of healthcare like operations, marketing, and finance, and being comfortable with uncertainty. There were moments of doubt, long hours, and a lot of trial and error.
Even now, balancing being a provider, business owner, educator, and mother comes with its own challenges. Time management and maintaining balance is something I’m constantly working on.
But every challenge has also been a learning experience. It’s helped me grow, stay resilient, and remain focused on why I started—to create better access to care and make a real difference in people’s lives.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about NOLA Care?
NOLA Care is a modern primary care and wellness clinic built on a simple but important idea—healthcare should feel personal again. We provide direct primary care, mental health services, and wellness treatments, all designed to care for the whole person, not just a diagnosis.
What we’re known for is time and access. Our model allows patients to have direct communication with their provider, longer visits, and a more relationship-based approach to care. We focus heavily on prevention, chronic disease management, and making sure patients truly understand their health—not just leaving with a prescription.
We also offer services that support overall wellness, including IV infusions, weight management, aesthetics, and women’s health. It’s a space where patients can address both medical needs and lifestyle goals in one place.
What sets us apart is how we’ve blended traditional values of medicine with a modern approach. We’ve taken the time to build a practice where patients don’t feel rushed, where communication is consistent, and where care is intentional. That’s something many people feel is missing in healthcare today.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust we’ve built. Patients know they can come to us and be heard, supported, and cared for without judgment. That reputation has been built through consistency, transparency, and genuinely putting patients first.
What I want readers to know is that NOLA Care is more than a clinic—it’s a different experience. We are focused on accessibility, quality, and building real relationships, and we’re continuing to grow in a way that stays true to those values.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
That’s a tough one, but one of my favorite memories growing up is simply being surrounded by family. Some of the best moments weren’t anything big or extravagant—they were the everyday things like holidays, big family gatherings, and just being together.
There was a sense of warmth, tradition, and connection that really stuck with me. Those moments shaped how I see the importance of relationships, community, and taking time for people—values that I still carry into both my personal life and the way I care for others today.
Looking back, it wasn’t about what we were doing, it was about who we were with—and that’s something I’ve always held onto.
