Today we’d like to introduce you to Antinese Stinson.
Hi Antinese, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I have been a licensed esthetician for 8 years. I started on my esthetics journey because of my love for makeup. I was searching for a way to make continuous money without having to get a traditional job.
I knew that I loved makeup and at the time, I had gotten good at it. Someone mentioned to me that I need a license to make up, so after much research, I found that an anesthetics license is what I needed. I signed up for school, hoping that I would get my license and two perfect my craft.
After a few weeks in school, I realized that I wouldn’t even touch on makeup, so I begin to focus on the other things. Before esthetics school, I wanted to be a nurse so once we begin to focus on disease and disorders of the skin that brought about my love for skincare.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
After graduating, I started applying lashes and shaping brows and things like that because everyone wants their brows and lashes done, so it was quick, easy money. After a while, I realized that that really wasn’t what I wanted to do, so I begin to focus on facials instead.
It was so hard for me to gain clients, so I wasn’t making any money, which was discouraging, so I stopped doing skincare for almost two years. Four years ago, I decided to give it another run. This time working in a room in the back of a barbershop.
It was a rough start but once I learned to really focus on my skills and not just try to do what was popular that’s when my business made a complete 360.
We’ve been impressed with Glam Beauty Bar & Spa, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It has been 3 years since I opened my business and since then my clientele has grown tremendously. We are known for corrective skincare.
We focus a lot on corrective skincare for Ethnic skin because we don’t have a lot of places here that cater to minorities. I am proud of the fact that my company has grown so much in a few years. We are currently in talks of a second location. I think the thing that sets me apart from others besides my skills and techniques is the relationships that I build with my clients.
They trust me and know I’m not just trying to sell them something that I’m truly there to fix their skincare problems.
