Hidden Gems: Meet Allison Tanner of Glow Lab Aesthetic Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Tanner.

Hi Allison, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I always struggled with acne. It was my biggest insecurity and I was teased a lot in middle school because of it. I wore tons of makeup and went to so many different dermatologists to try anything I could get my hands on. I even went on Accutane twice. Fast forward to college, I was a biology major and in the pre-med program for a few years until I realized that it wasn’t my passion. I took a few years off and I was working at a hair salon as a receptionist where I fell in love with the beauty industry. I knew I didn’t want to do hair so I learned about Esthetics, it was the perfect combination of the science that I knew and the beauty industry that I was infatuated with. I graduated top in my class and was so excited to start taking my own clients. I built my own business right after school and never looked back.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business on your own is always hard. I had no money, no savings as it was during the height of COVID-19 but I took as many business, marketing, and Instagram courses as possible and spent 100% of my free time working on my Instagram and learning everything I could about skin.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Glow Lab Aesthetic Studio is a results-driven, ethical and progressive skin care studio. I specialize in treating skin conditions, not just putting a band-aid over them. I have an over 90% success rate in treating acne with my acne Bootcamp program, I am certified in DMK Skin Revision with Enzyme Therapy. Continuing education is critical in my business and I take extensive courses to make sure I am up to date with all current skincare and ingredients.

My brand is centered around being myself, unapologetically. I believe in community over competition and authenticity.

I want my clients to see me as their estie bestie, not just a service provider.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I wouldn’t be here without my family, they are my biggest cheerleaders and hype me up in the family group chat constantly.

My amazing fiancé helped put me through school and worked multiple jobs so I could focus on school and building my business.

I follow a lot of women-owned businesses and a lot of great estheticians on Instagram that have cultivated the best community that offers so much support.
