Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Mourier PT, DPT, Cert. DN
Alexis, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began my journey as a physical therapist in order to help people return to the best version of themself. It has been a profession that has helped me since a young age as an athlete. I wanted to be that little piece of help in someone’s healing journey. I went on to complete my Bachelors in Kinesiology from UNC-Greensboro, followed by my Doctorate of Physical Therapy from The University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. Physical therapy has been a passion of mine for many years and I love seeing people grow, heal, and leave better than they started. I began to grow tired of the in-clinic and insurance model failing person after person – athlete after athlete. After being in a failing clinic model, I decided there was more I can do for the people I serve. People and athletes deserve to be given undivided attention. They deserve to be heard and given the space to grow towards their goals. They deserve a program designed for their activities, lifestyle, and busy schedule without feeling like it’s a chore. So, in order to provide comprehensive care that is truly flexible for people, I started my own business. It is my mission to provide better care and deliver more intentional programs for athletes where the feel challenged, they get stronger, and are growing towards their goals. As a former (and current) volleyball player, I am tired of seeing athletes being failed by the clinic models and strive to provide the exceptional care they deserve.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing about entrepreneurship is easy. I’ve been working to navigate the ins and outs of business creation, marketing, programming, and continuing to learn about the body along the way. There are days where I feel like the path is clear and I am making progress towards my mission. Then, there are days that I feel stuck without direction. I feel the networking and marketing has been the biggest struggle as a physical therapist when there are so many clinics out there. It’s tough to navigate the realm of hybrid and remote physical therapy when people are so used to a traditional model. But I’m working hard to bring awareness to the failing model to provide more exceptional care for those I am called to serve. I am so very grateful for my coaches and support system through The HoneyBadger Project as I explore entrepreneurship and a practice model that can grow as my clients grow!
We’ve been impressed with Dr. Lexi PT, DPT, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I help athletes play better, longer. My physical therapy practice model is designed for the busy schedule and for those who need to be challenged in their rehabilitation. I provide a hybrid approach to physical therapy offering a remote exercise and training program with either virtual or in-person check points to give my clients the freedom and flexibility to truly become a better version of themselves. Athletes have been failed time and time again by the clinic model with light weights, resistance bands, and being one of many during the session. That’s not what an athlete needs to be better. People and athletes deserve to be given undivided attention. They deserve to be heard and given the space to grow towards their goals. They deserve to train like their sport with loads equivalent to sporting demands. It is my mission to provide better care and deliver more intentional programs for these athletes to where the feel challenged, they get stronger, and are growing towards their goals. I provide an individualized treatment approach for all I work with designed with their end-goal in mind, no matter how big it is. I work with athletes who want to perform at their best through strength, conditioning, accountability and if needed, dry needling and manual therapies. Physical therapy should embody all aspects of the person – physically, mentally, and environmentally. Your physical therapist should be like a good coach who challenges you to achieve your goals, encourages you through the wins and losses, and holds you accountable along the way. That is how I show up for my clients throughout their journey.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory would be when I was about 16 years old playing club volleyball. My coach at the time would always wear a red bandana when he would scrimmage us – that was his way of saying he’s taking this seriously. He had done this for many years prior as a coach and player. It was something he was known for throughout the local volleyball community. So flash forward to our home tournament as hosts. We were keeping score for the match before ours and things were running behind. He explicitly told myself and my co-captain to not leave the court and to hustle into warm ups as soon as the match was done. Except, he didn’t know we had a plan before that match. So when the match ended, we all left the court. To say he was mad is an understatement. As a team, we promptly returned to the court with our red bandanas donned. He tried so hard to stay mad – he just hit the net, smiled, and sat down. The referee at the time also knew him and said, “Paul, don’t you also wear a red bandana?” To which he just laughed so hard, called us over, and said we got him good. He is a coach that has had such a big impact on me as a player, coach, and person. So I hold this memory close and it always brings a smile when I remember those times.
