Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Moorhead
Hi Adam, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in Jacksonville, FL. I graduated from Vanderbilt in 2002 with an engineering degree with little to no professional work experience. I had never worked full time other than summer jobs during college. I enjoyed being in college, but it was also a lot of work for me. College was tougher academically than I ever thought it would be. It was similar to climbing a mountain or hiking a long distance. I was very young when I started college, and after four years in Nashville, I was a college graduate and had accomplished the first big goal in my life: university graduation. I had no idea what to do next except take a vacation with a few friends to Costa Rica and breathe.
I knew that manual labor was good for the soul, but I decided to try to use my degree and “think” for a living, so I took a job with a big corporation working as an engineer on a power plant construction project in Alabama. That was my first full time job out of college, and I was 23 years old. After bouncing around and changing companies about every two years, I lost joy and interest in working with a big company. The financial crisis hit in 2008 and 2009, and I found myself out of work but also relieved that I was not doing work that made me unhappy. I realized at age 28 that I was making more money than I ever had before, but that I was not happy at work and felt that I was wasting my life. I needed more flexibility, less stress, less fast pace. After taking a few years off I tried to return to the corporate world as an engineer in 2013, but it was a bad idea. It did not make me happy.
I ended up moving out to the mountains for a change of pace, change of scenery and that is when I fell into real estate brokerage. I loved the western lands of Montana and Wyoming, the wide-open spaces, the slower pace of life, and the downhill skiing close by in the mountains. I loved the summer weather in the west. I thought I would stay for a while, but then my father passed away in 2015. I felt sad but also felt that he had lived a great life and gave me everything he could. I thought Mom back in Florida would need support and help after dad passed, so I moved back to Florida. My mom, in reality, did not need my help much because she was very independent. I decided to keep working in real estate but in Florida
where I originally grew up and where I had much familiarity. It was always my intention to move back out to Montana one day if I could make a living out there. However, to this day I am still in Florida.
In 2019, I took an opportunity to go back to graduate school at the University of Miami studying business. I did it for me because I wanted to and because I wanted the education, not because I thought it was a guaranteed higher earnings potential in real estate. I got tired of others saying and thinking that I did not understand business. I thought graduate school might open more opportunities. I did well, I enjoyed it, and I learned a lot over two years and through COVID before graduating with an MBA. I took a few real estate jobs with commercial firms as an independent contractor but quickly decided that starting my own firm made sense for my schedule and for my own happiness. I still work in real estate to this day in Florida, but I still often think about moving back to Montana.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“Smooth roads” in life are hard to find. I guess it’s all relative, right? Smooth as in “easy”? No. Smooth as in “stress free”? No. Smooth as in “my needs were met”? Yes, absolutely. Smooth as in “have I accomplished a lot”? Yes. Struggles along the way have been finding my tribe, my friends and co-workers that I can do life with happily and successfully. Friends tend to come and go. Co-workers tend to come and go. Jobs come and go.
We’ve been impressed with A. C. Moorhead Company, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We broker land and residential real estate deals in northeast Florida and throughout the state: homes, lots, larger tracts of land, commercial development land, residential development land, rural land, agricultural land, and recreational land.
We represent buyers on a case-by-case basis, and we market and list properties for owners/sellers. We provide opinions of value, we show/walk properties, and we communicate with other brokers and stakeholders.
We are a smaller firm, boutique in nature. We are very independent.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am a published author of poetry and creative writing: three books through a hybrid publisher called Rushmore Press out of Las Vegas, NV. The books are currently available on Ingram Spark, and I do not have an agent.
