Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Whipple.
Hi Aaron, can you introduce yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been writing my whole life since I was in elementary school. A few years ago, after having been honorably discharged from the Marines, I learned what copywriting is. Though I knew what it was, I didn’t look further into it. I went to Palomar College for Business Management in San Marcos, California, using my Post 9/11 G.I. Bill. However, I always stuck to having a traditional 9-5, rarely using my skills and passion for writing. We moved to Jacksonville, and after working a few soul-crushing jobs, I decided I needed to learn more about Copywriting and how to start helping businesses advertise and market their products & services.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story. Has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It could have been a smoother road. But I’ve kept repeating a quote from Jim Rohn: “If you do what is easy, your life will be hard. If you do what is hard, your life will be easy.” I only decided to really pursue my goals and start this freelance Copywriting business in 2023, and there’s been a lot to learn and apply. My biggest struggle is consistently reaching out and following up with niche brands to grow my client base and pipeline.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Copywriter Aaron?
I’m a freelance email copywriter. When you get an email from a business, that email was likely written by a copywriter. And email copywriting is just one niche in the copywriting space. Email copywriting is my forte. There are a lot of emails sent every day that end up going into the Promotions tab, or worse, Spam. Certain detailed emails must go into the primary emails and stay out of the spam dungeon. That’s where I come in and write emails with those details, which are also compelling and persuasive to the reader.
What sets me apart from other marketers and copywriters is that I have a lot of actual experience in the niches I write for. I served in the Marines for just under 10 years as a Combat Engineer and Military Police officer. That gave me knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience with niches in tactical gear and clothing, firearms, fitness and nutrition, disaster preparedness and survival, and coffee.
I’ve started this, and I’m still working toward milestones and accomplishments. But, my first paying client got four emails written by me. His email open rate went up 10% with just those for emails. Suppose you’re a Veteran-owned small business or a veteran-friendly larger company in the tactical gear/clothing, firearms, fitness & nutrition, disaster preparedness/survival, or coffee spaces. In that case, I’ll help you build trust and rapport with your customers and turn them into clients. Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok are all great for business, but at the end of the day, 306 Billion emails are sent and checked worldwide daily.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
In 2009, my wife and I met Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd when he premiered his Crystal Skull Vodka on Camp Pendleton. In 2011, I met Gunnery Sergeant R. Lee Ermey, the DI in “Full Metal Jacket,” and host of Mail Call on the History Channel while at Sergeant’s Leadership Course on Camp Pendleton. My wife and I met in San Diego, CA, in 2005. We’ve been married since February 2006.
