Hi Sha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
It took a lifetime for me to reach the point where I could truly embrace myself and accept who I am. Born and raised in the South Bronx of New York, I navigated a compassionate existence in a tumultuous environment. The ability to sense the emotions of those around me created confusion and proved to be a considerable challenge. Managing my own emotions, intertwined with those of others, led to imbalance, depression, weight gain, and a withdrawal into isolation. At nearly 400 lbs, my weight became a physical and emotional barrier, a means to contain emotions and distance myself from others. In July 2018, my goal was not to change my weight or eating habits but to embark on a journey of self-love with uncertain outcomes. Along this path, I learned to forgive myself for perceived shortcomings and abandoned self-punishment in favor of self-reward. I had believed that happiness was reserved for the “successful” and that I, as a perceived “failure,” did not deserve kindness, compassion, care, or love. As I embraced self-love, I recognized my worthiness of life’s goodness. Dreams and aspirations blossomed, and I desired a healthier mind, body, and spirit.
In January 2019, I underwent gastric sleeve surgery and initiated a holistic self-care routine, incorporating breathwork, healing touch, sound therapy, yoga, and journaling. These practices transformed my life, offering a new perspective and bringing balance to the chaos in my mind. Embracing my sensitivity as a gift, I discovered my calling to help others find balance and find their innate gifts. I became a certified Yoga Instructor, Reiki Master, and Sound Therapist; I am also a Transformational Coach, providing Aura and Chakra Analysis. As a result, I established the first Holistic Energy Center Cooperative in Jacksonville, called Intuit Minds. Beyond individual client work, Intuit Minds offers affordable classes, making holistic health services accessible to all. Through this journey, I’ve transformed myself and created a space to empower others toward self-discovery and fulfillment.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The most significant challenge for me and anyone striving for substantial transformation lies in accepting the person we are destined to become. Frequently, we find ourselves trapped in old patterns and constrained by limiting beliefs. To truly evolve into the best versions of ourselves, we must courageously commit to our growth and avoid shortchanging ourselves of the life we truly deserve. Even if our chosen profession impacts the lives of others, we should never forget that our ultimate goal is to fulfill our calling. Standing firmly to our purpose benefits us and automatically positively influences those we encounter. My life experiences, including the challenges of growing up in the South Bronx and enduring various situations, have uniquely prepared me for this moment. I’ve gained valuable tools, enabling me to guide others toward a happier and healthier existence. It’s acceptable to face difficulties, challenges and struggles in multiple aspects of life as long as we possess the tools to overcome those challenges.
