Exploring Life & Business with Rogers Cain of Lem Turner Family Medical Care

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rogers Cain.

Rogers, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Our family medical practice was started independently over 20 years ago on Lem Turner. We’ve remained a relatively small practice with limited staff but we have an abundance of experience. We have sought to serve the community and teach them about how to empower themselves through their health.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Their have always been various issues that come with being a small business owner, particularly in medicine. We haven’t consolidated with any major health groups so we have to do things on our own such as insurance verification, billing, managing ever-changing technologies, etc. Medicine is constantly evolving and even as we struggle through the various changes and challenging legislation, we always find a way to give the best possible care to our patients.

As you know, we’re big fans of Lem Turner Family Medical Care. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We run a primary care practices for those from their teenage years to senior years. We mostly see older Black patients with a variety of chronic conditions that can be a struggle to manage simultaneously. We especially want our older patients to understand the options available as they get older and what systems are in place to help them navigate the healthcare system.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would say that being open to all new possibilities and suggestions is the most important thing to networking. When you are willing to listen to people, they are willing to talk with you and work with you. What you have to offer is your time and insight to help them and, in turn, you gain knowledge and they may be willing to listen to your ideas.
