Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Jones.
Hi Lisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Sure. In 2016 I had been primarily a stay-at-home mom. Secondarily I was a yoga instructor and yoga therapist in the area for 15 years – working at various studios and renting a space of my own -always keeping my family first. I was working maybe 3-5 hours a week and only charging 10-12.00 per class or $50.00 for private sessions.
At this point, I had my own self-study of clean eating and supplementation for years and what I noticed was that a lot of my friends and family were calling me for “health” related issues and guidance. My husband wound up losing his job for the second time in two years. He was in IT and it was very shaky as a lot of jobs were being outsourced overseas. I had previously been in Corporate and he asked if I would consider going back to work.
Having three daughters at home (2 in middle school and 1 in high school) I still felt they needed to be our priority. At this time a friend suggested I look into Health Coaching saying it would be a perfect fit for me. I discovered an accredited institute and first completed a 6-month Health Coaching Certification followed by a one-year Master Life Coach Certification. Going through this accreditation process was a HUGE affirmation of all of the studies I had done on my own over the years. My husband would tell you himself the excitement he saw when I explained what I discovered to him.
I boldly stepped into asking for a fee for my two practice clients required to receive the certification. I did not have any issues receiving these fees and they were way higher than anything I ever brought in from my years as a Yoga instructor. Mastery helped me continue to evolve and reach full Solopreneur status. Mastery gave me the tools to shift into realizing I was actually doing Life Coaching along with Health Coaching for years. Mastery allows you to dig deeper in your Coaching practice and assist clients in all facets of their life.
As a Master Life Coach, I combine my years in Corporate America with my Holistic practice as well as 10 years in Marriage Ministry to meet all of my client’s needs. There are three main “doorways”, as I like to call them, my clients walkthrough to begin Life Coaching. It may be their Career/Business, it may be their own Health or it may be their Relationships. As a Coach, I consider myself a Human Potential Specialist and it’s my job to assist my clients in achieving their highest potential.
One of the best quotes I like to reflect on is “Crisis is not the enemy it’s an invitation”. That was my story. We were in crisis mode. 3 young children-I had left Corporate years ago and knew I did NOT want to be gone every day from 8-5. My husband was the primary breadwinner- and we had income fluctuation for 2 years. He was getting nervous and our debt was rising. At 51 I took a bold step to evaluate what it was I really wanted to do.
Going back to school and launching a full-time Coaching practice allowed us to pull up and out and no longer have to say “no” to our children for sports or activities or travel because I was able to provide support to my husband and the household income. I also set an incredible example for my daughters of perseverance in times of trial.
Six years later and I can say “I create the life I want to live.” Whether I work 5 hours a week or 30 hours a week, Entrepreneurship allows us to plan for future weddings and worldwide travel, and now we live 1 mile from the beach.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning your own business means you are on a constant roller coaster of peaks and valleys. Some of the struggles along the way are really honing in on your brand. As a solopreneur, it is what makes you- you. There is no marketing team to assist you. You are the marketing department, the finance department, quality assurance, implementation, and delivery. At times that can be extremely challenging.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about LR Coaching?
Life is full of transitions and transformation and I’ve had my share. At its core, LR Coaching is for women and men who don’t want to play small or play from someone else’s script.
Stress Management and Self-Care are of vital importance today. As a type-A driver-driver, I am so grateful that I was introduced to the world of Holistic Health in my 20s! 30 years later and I’ve spent years with some of the best leaders in the mind/body world of health and healing as well as leadership and business. I have over 500 hours of training certification in Yoga, Pre-Natal Yoga, Meditation, Spirituality, Coaching, Leadership, and Employee Work-Life Balance.
After I returned to the “job force” from my SAHM years one of the most important realizations I had was that adults have lost the ability to relax and have fun. We are master multi-taskers and on the go constantly. It’s vital for us to learn how to simply “be” so that we can be all we are meant to be for everyone and everything that is so important to us.
As a Life Coach, there is one thing that I absolutely LOVE and that’s the TRANSFORMATION I see in my clients when they have their AHA moments and rise up to who they were fully meant to be. Some of us are simply infused with the confidence gene and it comes fairly easy. Others have to peel back the layers to discover all they actually have accomplished and no longer hide behind a façade of “I’m not X” and fully step into the “No, I AM “X” and I do have a LOT to offer this world!”
It reminds me of Jane (not her real name). She was in IT for years, lost her husband, was left to raise her daughter on her own, did corporate, remarried, scaled back to part-time work to be with her daughter, and then her daughter went off to college and she was lost. She forgot who she was and what she had to offer the world. Her skills were amazing and she just forgot how to use them.
Together we created exactly what she wanted. She became a College Process Coach and now helps other families with preparing to launch their children! The rise up was powerful in Jane! I think at many points in life a “thought” alone is incredibly powerful. Each day, over 100x per day, we are choosing to either be positive or negative in our thought process. We do have the capability to work through this in two ways – out of the negativity and also as an influx of energy to discover “where is this coming from and why?”
Working as a Manager for both Cellular One in Washington/Baltimore and at Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems in Dallas, TX, I’ve had teams of up to 20 and trained up to 800 employees. Each person has a unique but identifiable behavior, comfort zone, and social style. It’s important for us as leaders to recognize this and work within these “zones”. Using these years of experience I have brought all of this to the table in my Coaching practice. Guiding and leading people is a gift and requires wisdom, knowledge, and being ok with challenges.
As leaders and managers, we need to recognize how to identify and classify each one of our employees/clients so that we can have a reasonably accurate picture of who we are relating to as well as mentoring. Once we are aware of these unique styles we can move into needs and expectations and start to strategize what works best for that particular employee or client. After all, we both want to wind up in a win-win situation.
Results and growth. What’s one thing that you could be doing for yourself that you’re not? One thing that could increase your sales, your energy, or your connection to the most important person in your life? Most of us know what to do – we just don’t do it. And that is where I come in. To assist in getting you into action. No more excuses.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m one of 7 children with 29 first cousins.
