Hi Layla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into the beauty industry wasn’t a straight line, but it has always been rooted in creativity, resilience, and a desire to help others feel confident in themselves.
I became a licensed esthetician after realizing that beauty was more than just a service to me, it was a form of self-expression and empowerment. Early on, I gravitated toward lashes and brows because of the way small, detailed work could completely transform how someone feels when they look in the mirror. I fell in love with the artistry behind it and the personal connections built during each appointment.
Like many entrepreneurs, my path hasn’t been without challenges. I’ve had to rebuild, restart, and push forward during seasons where life felt uncertain, including navigating single motherhood and starting over professionally. Those experiences ultimately strengthened my work ethic and deepened my purpose. Building my business became not just about success, but about creating stability, independence, and something meaningful for myself and my son.
Today, I’m the owner of Lash Alchemy by Layla, where I specialize in customized lash and brow services tailored to each client’s features, lifestyle, and personal style. My brand blends artistry with intention – focusing on quality, education, and an elevated client experience. I’ve recently expanded into a new studio space, which feels like a full-circle moment and a reflection of how far this journey has taken me.
I’m proud of what I’ve built, but I’m even more proud of the growth behind it. My goal moving forward is to continue refining my craft, expanding my brand, and inspiring others, especially women, to pursue their goals even when the road isn’t easy. If my story shows anything, it’s that persistence, passion, and believing in yourself can truly change your life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like many small business owners, one of the biggest challenges has been balancing personal responsibilities with the demands of entrepreneurship – especially while building a business largely on my own.
There were periods where I had to step back, regroup, and rebuild from the ground up. Navigating financial uncertainty, limited resources, and the pressure that comes with being fully self-employed forced me to become very disciplined and strategic with my time, energy, and decisions. As a service-based business owner, I also had to learn how to protect my boundaries, value my work, and operate in a way that’s sustainable long-term.
Another challenge was trusting my own vision. In a competitive industry, it’s easy to feel pulled in different directions or compare your progress to others. Learning to stay focused on my brand, my quality of work, and the experience I want to create for my clients has been an ongoing process – but an essential one.
Each obstacle ultimately taught me something valuable. They pushed me to grow not only as a business owner, but as a person. Looking back, the challenges I faced are the same ones that shaped the confidence, clarity, and resilience I bring into my business today.

My work centers around building and growing Lash Alchemy by Layla, a beauty business rooted in customization, artistry, and intention. I specialize in lash and brow services, with a strong focus on tailoring each service to the client’s eye shape, lifestyle, and personal aesthetic rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach.
From the beginning, I’ve been very hands-on with every part of my business – from service execution and client education to branding, scheduling systems, policies, and studio operations. Creating a welcoming, elevated experience is just as important to me as the technical quality of my work. I want clients to feel comfortable, confident, and cared for from the moment they book to the moment they leave my studio.
As my business has grown, so has my vision. I’ve worked intentionally to refine my brand identity, improve efficiency, and operate in a way that supports long-term sustainability rather than burnout. Recently expanding into a new studio space has allowed me to further elevate the client experience and continue growing in a direction that aligns with my values.
At its core, my work is about more than beauty services – it’s about confidence, consistency, and connection. I take pride in creating results my clients love while also building a business that reflects discipline, creativity, and purpose.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe luck plays a role in everyone’s journey, but more often than not, it shows up when preparation meets opportunity. I’ve been fortunate to cross paths with supportive clients, mentors, and moments that helped push me forward – but those opportunities only mattered because I was ready to work for them.
There have also been moments that felt like setbacks at the time but ultimately redirected me toward something better. Looking back, what may have seemed like bad luck often became a turning point that forced growth, clarity, or a necessary change in direction.
In business especially, consistency, discipline, and persistence have mattered far more than luck alone. Showing up even when things felt uncertain is what created momentum. I’ve learned that while you can’t control timing or circumstances, you can control how prepared you are when opportunity presents itself.
So while I’m grateful for the good fortune I’ve experienced, I credit my progress more to resilience, intention, and the willingness to keep going, even when the outcome wasn’t guaranteed.
