Exploring Life & Business with Kirri Alexander of Dish It With KC LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirri Alexander.

Kirri, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started with a simple love for cooking and making people feel special through food. What began as cooking for family and friends quickly turned into people asking me to cater birthdays, weddings, and other events. Every opportunity led to another, and I continued investing in my craft, learning, growing, and putting my whole heart into every event.

Over time, that passion became my business. I built it one client, one event, and one recommendation at a time. There were definitely challenges along the way, but I never let them stop me. Instead, they pushed me to work harder, improve, and trust the process.

Today, I’m grateful to do what I love while creating memorable experiences for others. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how something that started with simply enjoying cooking has grown into a business that continues to open new doors, and I’m excited to see where the journey takes me next.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges has been staying true to my values in an industry where trends often take priority over food safety. As a chef, I believe the food should not only look beautiful, it should also be handled safely from start to finish.

Today, social media has made elaborate displays and aesthetics a huge focus. While they may look great in photos, I’ve seen food that should be kept hot or cold sitting out for long periods just for the presentation. That’s something I’m simply not willing to compromise on. Sometimes clients want to recreate what they’ve seen online without realizing the food safety risks involved, so educating them while still creating a beautiful experience can be challenging.

Another challenge has been adapting to today’s economy. Food costs fluctuate constantly, supplies are more expensive, and operating a business requires adjusting prices without sacrificing quality. Finding that balance hasn’t always been easy, but it’s taught me to be flexible, intentional, and committed to delivering value.

At the end of the day, I’d rather be known for serving food that’s delicious, safe, and prepared with integrity than for following every trend. My clients trust me with some of the most important moments of their lives, and that trust means more to me than any viral display ever could.

We’ve been impressed with Dish It With KC LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dish It With KC has grown into a brand that allows me to do what I genuinely love in so many different ways. While most people know me for catering, I’ve also had the opportunity to work as a celebrity chef and tour chef, teach cooking classes, and create private dining experiences. I love that no two days look the same.

If I had to say what sets me apart, it’s that I don’t cut corners. I’m big on food safety, quality, and making sure the food tastes just as good as it looks. Anyone can put together a pretty setup, but I want people to remember how the food made them feel and the experience they had.

I’m most proud that my brand has been built through consistency, relationships, and reputation. A lot of my business comes from repeat clients and referrals, and that means everything to me because it tells me people trust me with some of the biggest moments in their lives. Whether I’m feeding a family of four, a wedding of 300, or traveling as a tour chef, I bring that same level of care, professionalism, and attention to detail every single time.

At the end of the day, I want people to know that my brand is rooted in excellence. I take what I do seriously, I love creating memorable experiences through food, and I’m grateful that this passion has opened doors I once only dreamed about.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t really believe in luck. I believe in God’s favor.

When I look back over my journey, I can honestly say that the opportunities I’ve been given are a reflection of His grace. Doors have opened for me that many business owners don’t see until they’re 15 or 20 years into their careers, and I’ve been blessed to experience many of them in less than 10 years. From working as a celebrity and tour chef to serving incredible clients and watching my business grow through referrals and relationships, I’ve seen God’s hand every step of the way.

That doesn’t mean the journey has been easy, but it does mean I’ve never felt like I was walking it alone. Every opportunity has reminded me to stay humble, work hard, and honor the gifts He’s entrusted me with. I truly believe favor isn’t about chance, it’s about preparation meeting purpose, and I’m grateful that God continues to open doors I could have never opened on my own.
