Today we’d like to introduce you to Jatyra Mobley.
Hi Jatyra, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My entrepreneurial journey began at 15 years old. I started doing my hair in my mom’s living room. I did my hair, so I didn’t have to ask my mom for money. My father went to prison when I was 11 years old, and the a 2-income household to 1 significantly changed our lifestyle. I had to grow up early, take on more responsibility, be held accountable, and work as a team player because “we are all we got,” as my mom always taught us. I took the initiative of creating income for myself to make it easier for our household. I never had any intentions of being a hairstylist, only doing it for income and the time being. I had dreams of being a Nurse Midwife. I went off to Florida State University to pursue this dream and furthered my education in nursing school. Through college and nursing school, I always continued to do my hair. I never stopped. While in nursing school, I was asked to work and manage a salon. I took the opportunity and fell in love with the business’s infrastructure and operations. I decided that I wanted to take business seriously and create a life for myself that could change the trajectory of my family through investing in educational courses, reading, and listening to knowledge. I decided that creating financial freedom for myself was key, and I wanted to do that through what I’ve always known, hair. I created a hair care product line as a result. As I began to work in my business, I realized that I could never become a millionaire working for someone.
The more I moved closer to my purpose, the more I lost my passion for Nursing. I decided to drop out of Nursing school Jan of 2021, and the following month Feb of 2021, I signed my lease to my salon suites. I opened a salon that will create a stream of passive income. The salon has allowed me to continue pursuing other dreams, such as real estate investing and more. As of March 2022, I am a realtor actively investing in real estate. The journey has been rough, but I am grateful. I haven’t truly even gotten started. I am excited about what’s to come. This is the beginning of my story.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not even! My character, faith, obedience, and strength, to say, tested the least. I struggled financially. I struggled with being equipped with the correct knowledge. I learned everything from experience, with no mentor or guide—just me and God. I struggled with time efficiency because I did not have a team.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
