Hi Destiny K., it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve come a long way from weed-eating and edging my grandmother’s yard, and it’s been years since I’ve trimmed her bushes. Somehow, despite the absence of “parental motivations,” my love for gardening still reigns supreme over all other passions of mine.
Originally from Wilmington, DE, I’ve been a Gardener for 12 Years, and you can find most of my landscaping work around Duval County, Florida. I turned a gardening hobby into the love of my life instead of my career or job.
I went to high school for web design, dropped out on my fashion degree, then dropped my communications degree, and finally graduated with an Associate in recording arts & sound engineering. I stayed a rebel and always did what “I” wanted to do, even if I changed my mind a million times.
The only consistent thing in my life has been my love for nature and gardening, I realized this at 18 and came up with the name “Fascinating Floral Designs”. I helped my partner’s parents and handed out flyers for years without clients. After many pivots, I finally figured out what I wanted to do. Now, I needed to learn the meaning of the word “horticulture”. Starting a business was the hardest part, but maintaining it has been the best part of the dream. My advice to anyone having a hard time staying motivated… “do the fun stuff first”. Grow/experience life, Be creative – get childlike (finger paint if you need a starting point, then design your logo/landing page!) Listen to audiobooks/podcasts if you’re not a reader for easier research, find it for free, and use someone else’s brain.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting a life coach and creating my relationship to a higher power, has also helped me to stay determined in my professional goals. I survived suicidal thoughts and my tips for those who realized therapy isn’t for them… you need “someone”. I needed a life coach, not a therapist My someone was Ms. Golethia Irving. She was an accountability partner for me, helped me stay inspired, and celebrated me through some important wins recently. Without people like her pushing me to keep going, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
