Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Meadows.
Hi Cynthia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started braiding hair at 14 years old in my mother’s kitchen. What began as a hobby quickly became my calling. I fell in love with helping people feel confident, and I knew I wanted to turn that passion into something bigger. I did all the girls in my neighborhood as that provided income for me to buy school supplies, clothing and my first car. I built a solid brand around 16 years of age. Everyone knew my work and styles
Over the years, I worked relentlessly to perfect my craft while learning how to build a successful business. That journey led me to open Abliss Studios, which has now been serving the community for over 11 years. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to educate and mentor beauty professionals, speak on stages across the country, and help countless stylists build profitable careers.
My work has been featured in more than 50 national publications, and I’ve been recognized for both my artistry and entrepreneurship. I’ve also developed my own beauty products and brands, combining my passion for healthy hair with innovation and education.
Most recently, I became a Certified Hair Loss Practitioner because I believe the future of beauty is rooted in wellness and science and helping women regain confidence in growing hair back. Today, I continue to grow as a salon owner, educator, mentor, and entrepreneur. Everything I do is centered around creating impact, helping people regain their confidence, and leaving the beauty industry better than I found it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges was building a business while raising my daughter as a single mother. There were seasons when I questioned whether I could be fully present as a mom while carrying the weight of being an entrepreneur. Every decision I made affected not only me, but also my daughter and the future I was trying to create for us.
Building Abliss Studios came with its own challenges. Learning how to lead a team, hire the right people, navigate disappointment, and rebuild after setbacks tested me in ways I never expected. I’ve learned that success isn’t just about attracting talent—it’s about creating culture, setting boundaries, and making difficult decisions when necessary. I’ve learned to fire fast and hire slow.
Another challenge was shifting my mindset from simply making money to building lasting wealth. I had to learn financial literacy, invest in myself, and think like a CEO instead of just a service provider. At the same time, I was trying to discover who I was outside of being a hairstylist. I realized my purpose was much bigger than doing hair. It was about creating opportunities, educating others, building brands, and leaving a legacy.
Looking back, every obstacle strengthened my faith, sharpened my leadership, and prepared me for the next level. Those challenges didn’t stop me—they shaped the woman and entrepreneur I am today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Abliss Studios ?
Abliss Studios was built on faith, excellence, and the belief that beauty has the power to restore confidence. What started as a dream has become an award winning salon that has served the Jacksonville community for more than 11 years. Every step of this journey has been guided by God’s grace and His faithfulness.
We specialize in healthy hair, hair color, extensions, and holistic hair restoration. We believe in treating the whole person, not just the hair. Our goal is to educate every client and provide solutions that create lasting results.
What makes Abliss Studios different is our heart for service. We believe every client deserves to feel seen, valued, and confident when they leave our salon. Excellence is our standard because we believe we represent God in everything we do.
I am also passionate about developing people. Through education and mentorship, I have helped beauty professionals grow their skills, build profitable businesses, and pursue the purpose God has placed on their lives. I have spoken on stages across the country, been featured in more than 50 national publications, and created beauty brands that extend our mission beyond the salon.
My vision is bigger than building a successful business. I want Abliss Studios to be a place where lives are transformed, confidence is restored, and people experience the love of God through the way we serve them. I believe we are called to make an impact, and that is the legacy I hope to leave.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The most important quality behind my success is my commitment to serving people with excellence. I believe customer service is just as important as the service itself. Every client who walks through our doors deserves to feel seen, heard, valued, and cared for. We put our clients first by listening to their needs, educating them, and creating an experience that builds trust long after they leave the salon.
I also believe quality should never be compromised. Whether it’s the work we produce, the products we recommend, or the atmosphere we create, excellence is the standard. Our brand is built on consistency, professionalism, and integrity because every interaction reflects who we are.
Most importantly, my faith is the foundation of everything I do. I believe God has called me to serve others with humility, lead with integrity, and steward every opportunity He has entrusted to me. When you focus on people, honor your values, and commit to excellence, success becomes a byproduct of the impact you make.
