Exploring Life & Business with Cheryl Brannan of Brannan’s Barn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheryl Brannan.

Cheryl Brannan

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
It began with friends talking about wedding venues and barn venues specifically. We had a barn initially used for hay and food storage for our cows, horses & goats. Once we decided not to continue raising cows, the barn was virtually empty (although my husband found ways to fill it). Friends and family discussing looking at venues for weddings and parties gave me the idea of transforming our barn into a venue. After all, it had already been used for my granddaughter’s “sweet 16” and a wedding reception before the renovations. The hardest thing I had to do was convince my husband. Once he was on board, the rest was history. Renovating took about 6 months, and we opened in January 2020.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an entrepreneur was never anything I had even remotely thought about. I had no clue what I was in for. I jumped in with both feet and have never looked back. There have been a few struggles, but nothing I couldn’t overcome by making some minor changes. It’s certainly been a learning process. I call this my “happy place” because everyone who walks through the door is here to celebrate “happy” times. I have so enjoyed meeting new people and hearing their stories.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I own a barn wedding venue. Unlike the typical barn, I call it “industrial chic.” Many have said, “I could live here” or “This is how I have my house decorated.” Depending on the style you are looking for, minimal needs to be done regarding decorating. The venue includes many amenities and decorating items left behind by previous wedding parties. The venue is a DIY-type venue. All the planning is left up to the individuals renting it to make it their style.

So, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you before we go? How can they support you?
The best way to support my venture as a venue is by

  1. word-of-mouth recommendations
  2. positive reviews
  3. encouraging feedback
  4. ideas for improvements

I’m always willing to listen to ways I can improve my current work.
