Exploring Life & Business with Amelia & Adam Painton of Raptors Tattoo Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia & Adam Painton. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Raptors tattoo studio is owned by husband and wife Amelia and Adam Painton who have recently moved to Jacksonville Florida. Adam is from Arizona and Amelia is from Utah. Adam has spent 6 years in the Navy on active duty and is driven, hardworking, smart, and disciplined.

Amelia is a successful and creative tattoo artist who has been tattooing for 9 years. Amelia has opened and managed a shop in Utah for 5 years. She has also tattooed as a guest artist at conventions and multiple shops around the USA including; New York, Colorado, Oregon, New Mexico, Arizona, Las Vegas, and Washington. Amelia has also tattooed as a guest artist at shops in Paris France, Tokyo Japan, Phuket Thailand, Perth Australia, and Saigon Vietnam. Amelia feels ‘tattoos are an act of service to honor understand and appreciate humanity through the power of expressing art, life, and one’s unique individual beauty”. our work speaks for itself and

Adam and Amelia met by happenstance while Adam was stationed overseas, and Amelia was traveling and tattooing. both individuals knew almost immediately they were meant to be together and their future goals of owning a studio together were born. After moving to Jacksonville Florida, courtesy of the Navy they have loved the Florida community and are currently in the process of opening their studio in Atlantic Beach.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Over the years Adam and Amelia have both faced challenges individually and together

Amelia- Some of the most memorable situations I have overcome would be being a female artist in the industry. When I started in Utah, I was one of 3 female artists in the entire state and I would be asked things like, ‘do you feel you need to work harder because you’re in a male-dominated industry?’ to which I would reply. ‘I feel I need to work harder for my clients to have a good tattoo’. I’ve had shop owners tell me id never accomplish anything on my own in my life without them.

I’ve been told that you can’t do that (travel and work) you cant dream that (owning a studio) or the industry is too overpopulated, you shouldn’t do that (open a business). Of all the things that have happened to me, I am only filled with gratitude for their lessons and for bringing me to my husband and Jacksonville Florida. Obstacles will come and go so in the face of challenges it’s important to remain true to yourself and your dreams no matter what anyone says. Other people’s insecurities are not your responsibility to entertain and focus on your business and your goals and you will be successful

Adam- We have been told the industry in Jacksonville is “oversaturated” and “we should open a studio in Jacksonville” well I am here to state we love this city and everything it has to offer. we will continue to grow and be successful and have nothing but love for all the people who wanted to see us fail. we have an overall goal to create an environment where we can support local artists and events. So I would not view any of these challenges to be an issue only something we can use to help us as people and our business Raptors tattoo studio grow.
