Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Daniel.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my lash journey in Colorado! I had just received my cosmetology license and 2 weeks later I packed up my life to move out to Florida to live with my husband who was in the military at the time. After a few months of living here I applied to a few salons and got denied, until one salon offered me a job as a lash technician. I worked at that salon for 5 years until one day we were told that the owners decided to close their doors in 2 weeks. At the time my husband and I just moved into our home and so many life changes were happening so needless to say the news was overwhelming. On my way home I called my husband and told him what happened. The first thing he said after I told him was “This is the perfect opportunity to start your own business.” Now I have thought about this for a couple years. I have always dreamed of becoming my own boss and creating a business that I can be proud of. I had a couple of friends who also have just recently started their own business and they encouraged me to start on my own also! If I didn’t have the amazing support system around me I don’t know if I would’ve taken the jump. With the short notice of 2 weeks I immediately got started getting my LLC, supplies, a suite rental, etc. 2 weeks later I opened up Elemental Lashes LLC! Let me tell you, it is no walk in the park. But seeing each of my clients leave happy and feel confident makes it all worth it. The connections I make with each person who walks in my door brings me such joy. Now its almost 1 year of being open and I am thankful for my journey to get to where I am today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has been a bumpy road! The biggest challenge is having an anxious mind. Now that I see everything behind of what its like to own your own business my way of thinking has changed! It is no walk in the park! When its slow you can’t focus on the negative. Instead I learned to take a step back and either take the extra time to learn new techniques or to make sure that my service is up to high standards for my clients. Learning to control an anxious mind has been a blessing during this journey and it’s something I will recommend to everyone out there to learn. Another challenge is having to learn new things on running a business! I have never done anything like this before and some things feel overwhelming. Thankfully I have amazing in-laws to give me insight to determine what is best! One thing I will remind myself each time there is a bump is that this is an opportunity to learn something that will help me in the future.
