Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbigail Ackerman
Hi Abbigail, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Abbigail Ackerman, I am the Founder of So Sweet! Apparel & Necessities; an online storefront for college Greek and custom apparel and accessories. I had freshly graduated college into a global pandemic and was quarantined to my parents’ home in Miami, Florida. Cut off from my anthropology colleagues and Sorority Sisters, I was preparing to celebrate my Sorority chapter’s Charter Day – at home. I am a first-generation student and the only one to “go greek,” which meant I didn’t have much apparel for my Sorority. I couldn’t find what I was looking for on other sites, so I decided that using my mom’s old Cricut machine was my best option. Thus creating the Classic Circular Chapter shirt that made this whole business a reality. It was an instant hit amongst my Sorority Sisters and Fraternity Brothers. October 2020, I opened So Sweet Greek, which I later renamed So Sweet Apparel & Necessities to include custom apparel sales. I started with chapter shirts, masks, and water bottles, but before I knew it I had over 400 items on my site and have shipped to almost every state! By 2021 I had a platform online to sell all over the US. Fast forward 2025 and I’ve had over 2,000 sales, and I am extremely thankful for every single one of them.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like any business, I have had slow seasons and times where I truly wanted to quit. But then I get an email with a review from a really happy customer, or a photo submission on Instagram and the doubt that was trying to plant its roots fades away. My customers make every messed up product and all nighters worth it. And yes, there were some nights I would process orders so far into the night the sun would rise. Running a business completely on my own is no easy feat.
As you know, we’re big fans of So Sweet! Apparel & Necessities. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
So Sweet Apparel and Necessities was created for the Greek member looking for unique items that don’t break the bank. Unlike some greek apparel stores, I personally design, create, and ship each and every order; Not a single item comes pre-made from a manufacturer. I love bringing each piece to life, especially the custom orders. So Sweet is Greek centered but not Greek exclusive, our plethora of items on the site are available for non-Greek orders if requested. We’re a small business but we understand the weight of community. Since our inception, we have chosen a handful of non-profits and local organizations to donate to, including the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation every October. We’re always looking for new organizations to support or even create items for. Let us bring your ideas to life
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I definitely could be described as a whimsical child, wherever the wind blew me (and my mom allowed me) I went. The word ‘bored’ wasn’t in our vocabulary, between my mom and my grandma, I was always doing some kind of arts and craft. There was never a point in time that I didn’t speak my mind, especially if it was something I was passionate about. My parents have been supportive of me in everything I’ve wanted to do, even when I chose to go out of state for school.
