We recently had the chance to connect with DJ WildChild and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning DJ, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
“I’m chasing the energy and connection that music creates that moment when a crowd locks in with the vibe, and we’re all moving as one. If I stopped, I wouldn’t just be walking away from DJing, I’d be stepping away from a purpose. Music isn’t just a job for me, it’s therapy, it’s community, and it’s legacy. Even if I slowed down on the business side, I could never stop creating or inspiring through music.”
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
“My name is Alex, better known as DJ WildChild, and I’m an entertainer who’s all about creating unforgettable experiences through music. I started my journey in Miami, grew up in Lake Placid, and really honed my craft at Bethune-Cookman University, where I became the go-to DJ for campus events. My brand, DJ WildChild, is built on high energy, versatility, and a connection with the crowd that goes beyond just playing songs, it’s about telling a story through music.
What makes me unique is that I blend corporate professionalism with raw street culture, I can rock a college party, a wedding, a nightclub, or a festival and still bring the same passion and authenticity. One of the biggest parts of my brand is #BALANGTANE is a phrase and movement I created that means living loud, chasing energy, and fully embracing life. It’s more than just a tagline; it’s a lifestyle I carry into every set, every crowd, and every opportunity. Right now, I’m focused on expanding my brand globally, growing my online presence, and building Balangtane into something the world can feel.
“Balangtane means bringing the energy of life into every beat, every crowd, and every moment.”
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
“Honestly, the person who saw me clearly before I saw myself was Ced. He recognized my talent and potential before I fully understood the impact I could have as a DJ. Ced pushed me to step out of my comfort zone, reminded me of my value when I doubted myself, and believed in my vision when it was still just forming. Sometimes it takes someone else to see the greatness in you before you realize it yourself and for me, that was Ced DJ Syco.”
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
“There was definitely a time I almost gave up. My DJ business slowed down a lot and I was struggling to pay the bills, I had to lean on other work I’d done before (retail, and transport work at the hospital) just to keep my head above water. It got to a point where the easy choice would’ve been to quit and take a steady job. What stopped me was the love for the craft and the people who saw me before I saw myself was Ced, and my supporters; plus the belief that I could rebuild it differently. I started sharpening my brand, leaning harder into #BALANGTANE, and treating every small gig like an opportunity to grow. That period taught me that talent isn’t enough without hustle, and that resilience is how you turn a rough season into momentum.”
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
“One of the biggest lies the industry tells itself is that clout matters more than talent. Too many DJs and artists get pushed based on followers, image, or hype instead of real skill and the ability to move a crowd. Another lie is that success happens overnight, people see the highlight reels but don’t see the sleepless nights, the empty gigs, the networking, and the grind it really takes. The truth is, the DJs who last are the ones who combine both talent, branding, and real consistency….not just a viral moment.”
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
“The thing I’ll regret not doing is fully taking DJ WildChild and #BALANGTANE global. I don’t want to look back and realize I stayed too comfortable or played it safe. I want to push every boundary, reach every crowd, and create experiences that last a lifetime. Not chasing that would feel like letting my passion, my talent, and the energy I bring to the world go to waste.”
