Today we’d like to introduce you to Seetharaman Radhakrishnan.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I grew up in India. I was born in June 1977 in Madurai, a small town in Southern India. In 2000 I came to the US to do my Master since then, I have been working in the US to pay for my Masters! In 2018 I started standup comedy by enrolling in a standup comedy class in Boca Raton, FL. Since then, I have been performing comedy all over the US, and I have also performed in India and Canada.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an Indian with a thick Indian accent has always been tough on stage. I must learn to talk slowly and pronounce my words well; otherwise, the crowd would not understand my jokes. Also, I used to have stage fear, and I used standup comedy to help me overcome that fear.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My standup comedy is special as I use my unique life experiences to write my jokes. Also, I am the only other first-generation Indian comedian in Florida.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My mentor is Gid Pool, a national headliner, and comedian for almost 20 years. He discovered me in a show I did where he was headlining. He has given me invaluable guidance and direction on how to write jokes and how to go about performing in clubs and shows.
